Yes! As a 5" compact owner myself I'm feeling all sorts of fuzzy seeing you demolish the swinging target compared to the 4" just kinda nudging it round after round in the other video. I was actively searching for a 4", but stopped when I found out the 5" was coming out. Wanted a weapon that simply did it's job of shooting as well as a pistol could. And here the compact frame allows for civilian concealability while the 5" barrel bestows duty level firepower in the same Walther quality package. This video verifies my decision to wait was a good one, thank you very much for that! They sure know what they're doing at Walther! Also, in regards to EDC; no regrets here due to carrying this thing in a Phlster Pro Series IWB holster. They have some very scientific videos on why a longer slide gun actually conceals more comfortably. Counter-intuitive, but it's true. I have my holster on a good belt and I could wear my Walther all day. I would like to see you expand on this platform in a future video. Would like to see how you get it to perform at some longer ranges under pressure. Y'all did a fantastic job of showing the difference an extra inch can make for that 9mm cartridge!

We've been meaning to get sciency and show folks what a difference it makes. It's even bigger with some other calibers. I carried a 3.8" 45acp when I didn't know any better. That 3.8" 45 actually had LESS muzzle energy than a 4" 9mm!

Initially I bought the Walther PDP full size 5" barrel 18+1. I was so impressed with its reliability, accuracy, and amazing trigger pull, that motivated me to buy the PDP compact 15+1. This one was a L.E. edition, came with 3 magazines and XS night sights installed from the factory. I also changed the factory sights on the full size one for AmeriGlo Trooper night sights. I truly am very pleased with both PDP handguns. They are unblemished. I hope that Walther will eventually make a PDP tactical and a sport match target in the near future. Two thumbs up! It’s about to join my carry crew after another 300 rounds or so (500rnds minimum) because I LOVE the concealablility of the G19 lower, but the ballistics out of the G17 are better in my mind. I bet the barn that the G17 is almost similar to the PDP in weight distribution, which I believe Teya mentioned, and slinging those seeds of freedom down range, recoil impulse-wise. It boils down to a training issue. Walther slide releases are LONG (compared to Glock, M&P, etc.) Which means no reaching to actuate it but also means that if you grip it like a 1911, you will never get slide lock. I've noticed I actually have to prepare myself for shooting walthers by doing some dry fire with my thumb *under* the side release. After that adjustment period, I have no problem. In fairness to Walther, i need an adjustment period with Glocks too, but it's worse for them because I'm adjusting to the grip angle so I don't shoot high.

Living in Canada there no conceal carry, no silencers, no real home defense legal backing and only 10 round max mags. So it's pretty much just me and range/target fire. With all that in mind, what are the advantages/disadvantages behind barrel length and grip length? I'm hearing a longer barrel makes for less recoil, so perhaps a 5" version is a good choice. Recall 4.5 and 5 in when using a red dot?
@GBGuns Жыл бұрын
Fortunately your original comment made more sense. Between the two you'll notice a smoother recoil rithym with a longer slide, and more energy for knocking over steel (or other targets) if used in competition. Red dots eliminate the sight-radius factor, but do not replace physics.

@@GBGuns Okay, thank you. I've been renting a full size 4.5 (at least I think it's a 4.5) at my local range and I really enjoy it so I wasn't sure if I wanted to go compact or go full grip and full barrel. Thank you for the quick response. There are 5 variations of the PDP (more on the way I'm sure), and it's the first time I'm doing TONS of research on one firearm just cause there are plenty of configurations.
@GBGuns2 жыл бұрын
Have you tried the compact frame? It feels a bit different than the full size frame (I, oddly, personally prefer the compact frame)
@jordanr68272 жыл бұрын
@@GBGuns I have not. The gun store has a few variants (only the full is for rent) and tomorrow I'll be trying to grip on each and playing 20 questions. I'm also going to a gun show next week to see about deals and maybe there will be the other variants. My current Walther EDC is a CCP M2 and though it fits my hand well, it's a bit too snappy for me and I'm not very good with it in terms of accuracy or control. Also the trigger is so-so. Not sure if you had any thoughts on it. If you have a review on it I'll gladly watch. So when I tried the full size PDP, even though it's a bit big in my hands, I liked the accuracy and control. But I'm not sure if you should use the full size if your hand doesn't fit the grip so well. There's a lot of open space under my hands but it doesn't seem to bother me much. It defeats the purpose of the lip at the bottom that they advertise as something to help acquire your red dots since my hands don't get near it. I'm sure that's rectified with the compact but again, I'm not sure if compact is really my thing. My other EDC is Taurus G3 (not the G3c) and even though again, it's a little big, I love how absorbent the gun is with recoil.
@GBGuns2 жыл бұрын
And bigger guns are usually easier to shoot. We have full tabletop and range reviews of the CCP M2 in both 380 and 9mm. That gun is great in 380, but a little snappy in 9mm.

Anyone been able to find any IWB holster options for this gun? I’ve been trying to get a 4” compact for months, but was only able to find one of these and plan on trading it for a 4” if one ever appears. In the meantime I’d still like to be able to carry something so if anyone has any options lmk

This pistol is an oxymoron… why would you have a long slide and a short grip? Maybe I’m missing something. You’re not going to conceal it… so why have the reduced capacity?
@GBGuns2 жыл бұрын
The grip is the hardest part to conceal, the barrel length determines energy and round efficiency. Small grip=easier to conceal. Longer barrel =longer sight radius and more muzzle energy. For some reason people seem to ha e forgotten that most 9mm is designed to perform from a 4" or longer. The shorter you go the less chance you have that fancy HP will perform as advertised.

@GBGuns3 жыл бұрын
Justin S i think you're missing the history of it all. Pistols began as duty guns. The Browning High Power started things off with doublestacks at 13 rounds. In today's age roughly the same size gun holds 17, shortening the frame to 15 is compact (typically slide too). 4" is generally the shortest you'd want a 9mm barrel unless you're using specialty ammo. Even most modern hollow points still need 4" of barrel to get the necessary speed. That made 4" slide and a 15 round grip the norm for compact. All the smaller guns that have been popular since the late 90s only came about when concealed carry became a thing. Since they're 50 years or so behind the naming convention they're "sub compact" and now "micro compact" which is about the same size as single stack 9s from the early 2000s, but since they have a double stack mag they're compacted.
@snafuequals3 жыл бұрын
@@GBGuns I'm not missing the history at all. I'm well aware of all of this and I believe it's silly to call such a gun compact. I don't need a lesson. The terminology is poor.
