MAC, I just acquired the PPQ M2, and am about to start my initial eval. But you'll be happy to note that they have reverted to a conventional push-button mag release, and it is very sweet to operate. But this video is one of the reasons I've been foaming at the mouth to get the PPQ to start with. Thanks!

Bought one of these shortly after watching your video. I love this pistol. So ergonomic and accurate. I prefer this style mag release. I have smaller hands and I find it more comfortable to hit it with my index finger. I've owned a few HK pistols so I'm used to it.

He spent a lot of time talking about the mag release but the new versions have a push button. We bought this gun for my wife and I can't stop shooting it. I've shot some of the best groups with of my life with it. We even had the slide and bottoms of the mags cerakoted pink and my buddies and I still take several turns with it at the range. It is a lot fun to shoot and I would recommend it to anyone.

Lots of companies have tried to copy a Glock, this is the first clone that actually improves on it without messing something else up in the process. No tiny little extraneous thumb safety, no mag disconnect, no grip safety, no extra chamber loaded indicator. Simple, smooth, ambidextrous, and with a trigger that's even better than a Glock match gun, right out of the box.

Really glad to see this video, I really like Walthers and I'm getting my CCW later this year so I'll really consider this weapon. BTW, I've shot a lot of HK/Walther's in the past, and I find that to actuate the mag catch its best to drop your index finger or use your middle finger to work the latch instead of your thumb. I find that method to be a lot quicker and it works for more users.

If you're asking what I think you're asking then people collect spent casings for "hand loading" where people use them to make their own bullets as it works out cheaper if you shoot a lot and they can tailor the bullets to how they want them. Its basically recycling where old bullets are used to make new bullets.

I remember those! I have a cold weather down jacket I can pack an arsenal into. In Arizona jackets are out 75% of the time. I just got a snub nose .357 Air Weight S&W and or a Bobcat Beretta .22. Both are tiny and light. I carried the Walther PPK for years when I had a paper route in a really shitty neighborhood. Now I use Sig Sauer autos, or H&K. My 9mm Hi Power was the first auto I carried for protection. It did indeed save my life Oct 3, 2003 when some tweaker went off the deep end.

Great review. I loved this pistol when it first came out, with the exception of the mag release. Glad I waited - I got the M2 version and found that it is everything I want in a polymer midsize 9mm pistol. I found that I have similar accuracy using 115gr ammo and that the sights were spot on. The Walther seems to be everything I wished the Glock 19 would be...definitely quite pleased with my purchase.

Spot-on review. You didn't mention bore axis, which is something I think a lot of shooters way overrate in terms of importance. cracks me up when people say the mag release is a negative. So much easier to me than my other traditional handguns. Walther then changes it in the version 2 model and now the price on the original goes through the roof because all the walther customers from the past like the original mag release. btw, this is actually a version of the P99, and labeled as such in some markets, but has been changed, probably to reboot o jump start the brand/gun.

I love the magazine release! your not supposed to use your thumb tho. I've only ever dry fired an M&P, and I liked it okay. The reason I was looking at the Walthers is because I've only ever heard wonderful things about their quality, and obviously having grown up on Bond flicks didn't hurt. Of all the striker fired pistols I've handled or fired, the trigger I think I liked most was the FNS-9's. Honestly, though, the truth of the matter is it's a great time to be looking for a first carry gun- I've never felt so spoiled for good choices.

I thought the same thing until I tried the M2. The new mag release is perfectly placed with perfect tension and response. Works great with my small hands. @VideoGameFallout I have, as I pointed out in my video. However, I've found it to be neither quicker nor more natural. I found it to be quite unnatural. I realize others may prefer this method. But with my long fingers using either my thumb or my index finger requires me to shift my grip, something I prefer not to do in a fighting handgun.

I don't carry mine due to the fact it does have a very crisp trigger. It's really not much lighter than a Glock trigger on the scale, however it does feel much more easy to release to me and to others. The Glock has more take-up in the trigger which I prefer for safety reasons on a carry pistol. However, I don't think the PPQ is a bad carry option - it's just not for me. Lots of people carry them successfully. It's all personal preference, but it sounds like we're on the same page.

Have you checked into the S&W M&P line of pistols? I would say it's probably the most ergonomic handgun out there right now and it has the same reliability as the Glock. It should fit your hand much more nicely and it will have a Glock like trigger. The only difference is that the M&P doesn't have a reset you can feel. Some folks hate that, others don't really notice. I don't really notice. The P99 is ok, i've owned them, but I'm not all that crazy about them personally.

@Gary1911A1 The grip only makes it a bit fatter feeling but doesn't really increase the reach much. The muzzle jump is more pronounced with the PPQ than a Glock, or so that was my impression. However, it's still quite controllable.

Exceptional review of the PPQ. Thorough and insightful. Glad you mentioned about the defensive carry of this gun and the AS trigger. I had the P99 AS and it is quite light, and it doesn't take much pressure to fire. I feel the SRT on the Sig's to be similar in that training and caution are required for defensive carry. I'm contemplating one of these or the HK P30L.. One other way to release the mag, the one i use on my HKs is to use the thumb and trigger finger at the same time, works very well

I have a PPQ in .40S&W, and I love it. A couple things about that one in particular: the magazine holds 11 rounds in the .40 (13 round mags are available), instead of the 9mm's 15 rounds. Mine has a "standard" push-button magazine release, which is reversible. I want to echo everything he's said about this pistol. Its accuracy is amazing, the grip and trigger are wonderful. If I change anything, it'll be the sights. This gun could benefit by having tritium night sights.

It's worth noting that the magazines are made by Mec-Gar, the same company that makes OEM magazines for SIG, CZ, Beretta, and others. Top quality. Also top price. However, it is compatible with P99 magazines, and magazines from P99 clones like the SW99 and the Desert Eagle FA. The Desert Eagle magazines also appear to be Mec-Gars, and are less expensive than the ones from Walther.
