I added an awsome kit from walthers to my layout and wanted to share it. The credit should go to Pelle Soeborg for inspiration for this video.Walthers chain link fence!

The chain link fence adds a lot of realism! Love the real concrete too! Your work is awesome!

I realise this is an old video, but I'd like to say nice work on the chain link fence. The tulle (mesh) is made of nylon and can be spray painted. I do like the bridge supports, they look great ! Cheers, Gary.

Nice job. This Walthers kit has been a big disappointment for me due to the fragility of the wire bond to the posts. Your drill idea solves that problem. Thanks

I just wanted to make a comment that people might find useful. I worked construction for many years doing demo/rebuild and so am very familiar with chain link fence. Chain link is a great way to make things stand out in a layout, spacing is important. on a construction site which is a site stripped down to clay to pour new footings, foundations. Since the posts are driven into clay (to be removed and re-used) they have to be closer together to keep a strong fence, in addition they have no top or bottom rail for added support. 1" OF SCALE FENCE COMES OUT TO ROUGHLY 7'4" BETWEEN POSTS. On stretches where the posts are set in a concrete foundation such as along a sidewalk the posts can be much further apart and still retain the characteristics of a strong fence. the taller the fence the longer the distance between poles. 1.5" -10'9" and so on.

Hey what a great layout scene. I just bought a roll of fine mesh at Michael's, (a craft supply stote) and for 3 bucks I can fence in my my whole layout. I work in "N", and it looks pretty good. I am new to the hobby so I don't have enough finished to show yet, but watching your video really inspired me. I just love all the weathering that you put everywhere. Most guys just do a building or 2 and a few boxcars. A real railroad is a gritty place and you show that. Very well done. Can't wait to go and see your other videos. I thank you and just subscribed!

I realize this video is a few years old, but still has some good information, especially the fences since I plan on installing some. thx

I did build it from scratch, the piers are real cast concrete, and the top is plywood with color foam for the top and ribbed styrene for sides.The fence is cut window screen.

Thanks for the info about the chain link fence kit. I bought a kit awhile back and find the directions somewhat confusing, especially step 3. They also say to mount the chain link material on contact paper to cut it into strips. Did you do that.? Anyway your work looks really nice!
@ruatrainman212 жыл бұрын
@sqb2024 your welcome,thank you for the good comments.You could also use window screen matierial and cut it diagonaly and weave thin metal wire through the screen to make chain link fencing,but that might be a last resort.

@retrainrun Hey thanks for your comment and sub. I actually had to move and had to tear the layout in half. The one bridge pier in the back of the layout completely crumbeled, I'm working on rebuilding it currently and will completely redo the back drop.I'll post a new video asap, and show my progress.

Your train work is great but your photography needs much improvement. For one get a tripod. two, stop panning so fast. and three, focus - focus - focus....
