Haha! Funny thing; I'm writing about a man teaching a woman to waltz in my story in which they tried to waltz at a 1940s-style USO dance party in 1981 but the girl can only jive and jitterbug, so she ends up botching the waltz right in the middle. She feels she made a fool of herself, so then the man decides to teach her in private so that she wouldn't stumble around so much. No; it's not like the premise of the movie 'Dirty Dancing'. ;)

It is a good one of a kind product for learning the rumba and other popular ballroom dances minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my work colleague finally got amazing success with it.

I am learning how to dance to attend a party at the embassy. It has been three weeks and I do enjoy myself. I already bought a dress and ready for next month. I am a teacher myself and would like to say thank you to the teacher. It's easy to follow and learn. I pick up pretty quick and able to change from slow to fast. Sometimes I go back to the beginner level as I do with my students.

Thank you; this was helpful, as I was trying to describe the process of learning it in a story I'm writing... A man in the scene I'm writing is teaching a woman how to waltz, as she has two left feet when it comes to slow dances; the only things she knows are the jive and the jitterbug. So yeah, this was nice the way you broke it down into small chunks; it was easier for me to process than from other videos I've seen. Thanks again!

Hi Egils. I am a total beginner but I love your videos - it such a pleasure to watch and learn with you! One minor question on this one when you do the natural turn in this video by your self you turn 180 degrees in four bars, then when you dance with your partner you do 360 degrees in five bars. I suppose that means the amount of turn is quite flexible, but my teacher is putting a lot of emphasis on 3/8 turns in two bars, so I was not sure what to think! Anyway, many thanks - I am on a one man crusade to drive your number of views :-) Best Regards, Paul
@EgilsSmagris7 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for enjoying my videos. You have good question. Idea is to increase amount of turn gradually. Usually I start teaching with Box Step without turn. Then we learn to turn Box Step to right with slight turn and after that we learn Natural Box with 1/4 turns to right (or 90 degrees). Then we do Natural Turn with 3/8 of turn to Right per bar (135 degrees). Hope it helps! Best, Egils
For those who have a project to dance the waltz and the deadline is May 14th, good luck to you all.

Nice video. 💙 I have watched a bunch of waltz videos.👞👞 All the ladies start with right foot back. I was wondering why your lady part starts with left foot back? 👠👠
@EgilsSmagris7 жыл бұрын
Jessa, thanks for appreciating our video and for interesting question! As you mentioned when we turn to Right ( Natural Box, Natural Turn) then Lady starts with LF back. If we want to do Turn to Left (Reverse Box, Reverse Turn) then Lady starts with RF back. Because Natural Turn is easier to dance together, I start to teach with Natural Figures. Hope it helps! 😀

This is one of the better videos I've seen because it doesn't have a bunch of distracting stuff going on. BUT, I have a huge question - from everything I've seen elsewhere, the steps are inverted - I thought the box step went clockwise, but you are going counter clockwise. I thought the lead starts with their left foot, then right, etc., as in this diagram. So, I'm a bit confused - it's the same as what you do, but mirrored basically. Are these different styles? Is one right or wrong?
@EgilsSmagris2 жыл бұрын
We have Natural Box, Natural Turn (turns clockwise). And we have Reverse Box, Reverse Turn (turn anticlockwise).Natural Turn Man starts with Right Foot forward.Reverse Turn Man starts with Left Foot forward. It is generally a good idea that Man starts dancing with Left Foot, and Lady with Right foot. Therefore if you want to start your dancing with Natural Turn, then I suggest to dance Closed Change with Left Foot before. Or start with Preparation step with Left Foot kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaXHpoSkprl4fpY

Some figures Man starts with right foot, some figures with left foot. You cannot change that. If you want for Man always start dance with left foot you choose such figure (Reverse Turn / Closed Change etc). Or dance preparation step with left foot and then continue with Natural Turn or other “right foot” figure.
