The emblem on the second cigarette case does NOT represent a simple pilot/observer badge. That checkerboard emblem was carried by Jagdverband 44 - the elite mixed gruppe of aces collected by Adolf Galland and flying the ME262 jet fighter as well as the FW190D (for top cover when the jet fighters were taking off and landing). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdverband_44

Wonderful video on the Feuerschutzpolizei, Mr. Wittmann. I'm a younger collector, and these videos are honestly very informative. I've done some research, thanks to your videos, and learned that many counterfeit products are being produced. Actually, I recently went back to your video on a LASSH sword that you made eight years ago. I'm learning more and more on how to spot counterfeits from originals. Thank you for your work. It's helping me currently as I'm looking for an SS panther head sword.

Amazing video Mr. Wittmann, is it possible for me to just ask two questions? 1. When did you start collecting? 2. Do you have any good advice for young collectors like me?
@WittmannAntiqueMilitaria
@WittmannAntiqueMilitaria 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Paolo! I'm pretty sure Tom started collecting in the early 70's. By way of advice, I've often heard him tell new collectors that buying good quality pieces is ultimately much more rewarding than a owning a large quantity of old rubble. If you have more any more question (or would simply like a response from the man himself, and not a lame moderator) you can contact Tom directly at: herrwittmann@gmail.com He absolutely loves emails from new collectors.

Still today you sometimes see firemen with this Wehrmacht style helmets, but they are mostly replaced with more modern ones.

@@WittmannAntiqueMilitaria : Where you can get pictures about current german firemen, i don't know. But when you can watch You Tube , there is a video in german language from August 2020. ,Brandgefählich- Prüfung bei der Feuerwehr' about firemen training in Germany, their helmets are still in this old style, but made of Aluminium or modern plastic material.
@brittakriep2938
@brittakriep2938 4 жыл бұрын
@@WittmannAntiqueMilitaria : I did some quick research in Internet. The steelmade firemens helmets had been in West Germany used until about 1970, then replaced by aluminium made helmets in the same style/ design. For new laws reasons, few years ago the aluminium helmets had to be replaced with helmets made of modern plastic material, so most firebrigades switched to helmets in a new design. But some firebrigades use helmets made of plastic, but in Wehrmacht style design, such helmets are still produced. The reason, i watched some of your videos, is, that you have a large collection, not only of military, but also other uniformed german organisations. Also your Name is german, meaning widower in english. My grandmother , died in 1995 used the word Wittfrau , when she spoke of a widow. Both words are outdated, today we use Witwe/ widow and Witwer/ widower. In one of your videos, about forrestry service, you translated Förster/ Forstbeamter as Ranger. With computer i translated this word into german language. The translation was Jäger/ Förster/ Forstbeamter/ Waldhüter/ Feldhüter. A Förster/ Forstbeamter is sometimes hunting, but no Jäger/ huntsman. Most hunters are simply citizens, who like to hunt, a small number of professial hunters exist and existed. In old days they had been in service of noblemen or other rich Land owners (real persons), today they are mostly in service of societies/ companies ( socalled juristical persons). Waldhüter, Feldhüter or Weinberghüter are nowadays rare, but up to some decades ago, in my village up to 1978, common. This had been men hired by the village/ town authorities to patrol in fields, woods, meadows or wineyards to prevent vandalism and theft of fruits, potatoes, cut down firewood etc., in France this men are called ,gardes champetres'. Usually this men ( in Germany) had no uniform and real weapon, mostly only a cane and perhaps a dog. ( Their French counterparts have an uniform, are armed, in early 19th century only with a Briquet type über). Firearms had been unusual, but these guards sometimes carried blanks pistols to scare birds in wineyards, up to 1930s cheap even cheaply made black powder derringers! ( In Hitler era also the very last nightwatchmen existed, and the ,town criers' still had police duties). The Förster are mostly gouvernement officals, in few cases , like the noted professional hunters, hired by rich landowners. Their duties changed in Germany about 200 years ago. Once they had been simply the guards of rulers property forrests against poachers and firewood thieves, which they are in theory still now, they had been a kind of police support force in 18th century, but from early 19th century to now, they have/had to supervise the cut down of trees, to plant new trees , to fight against bugs dangerous for the trees, how to sell the trees, not only for gouvernement owned forrests, but also for ordinary forrest owning citizens. Currently for European Union reasons the next change is coming. I hope, my long comment helps.

good evening! I've watched your videos a lot, and I can say, I've been pretty informative from you posted its good. Today there is a lot of copies on the market absolutely and I must be very careful;-) Everybody hate all on the German as they can, but they're digging everything they're produced. I began to collecting Iron Crosses and badges and I found out that I had to be very careful ,To many fakes everywhere ;-(( From Poland most of it because I had already burned my self by buying HJ knife
@WittmannAntiqueMilitaria

Yes, you can never be too careful. That's one of the reasons we like these videos, because the more real pieces we all get to see, the easier it becomes to spot the fake ones.

I don’t know anyone who ‘hates on Germany’, not here or in Europe but then again I’ve never been to Poland…and if it’s for Dark Histories or skeletons in the National closet, Poland has NO room to talk.
