I have this pen and I love it!, is really a reliable writer, light weight, simple... Great!!!

Very nice, and not a bad price for all that you get with it, if you like these things. When you consider what you pay for a stock Edison, Franklin-Christoph, Visconti and others with a steel nib this is not unreasonable. I like a large pen and this looks like a comfortable writer over long periods. Lovely surface finish too. P.S. Just checked the website and it's $30 extra for an ebonite feed, and the pen pillow does not come included and is an additional $40. I'd probably spring for the ebonite feed anyway.

What a beautiful pen and design. I really like the presentation in the box. Normally I am not one for packaging and throw it away, but that is really well done. Great review as always.

Thanks for the review. For that money, I would need more than this pen offers.

T Sherbs I totally agree. I guess ebonite is a nice material, but from what I can gather, one can buy a FC Loom for $50 and have a superb nib with a cartridge-converter filling system. If I'm going to spend over $100, I need more than a steel nib with a cartridge-converter filler. (Coincidentally, I don't have many pens over $100-lol)

Well... Montegrappas and some US small-scale companies (just like Wancher) are even more expensive than this So buy if you want, omit if you don't... I guess?

Good review but David is actually incorrect about this pen having a lacquer finish. Not only does this pen not have urushi lacquer but it does not have any lacquer at all. I have confirmed this with Wancher. This is true raw ebonite whether it has a polish or a matte finish.

Thanks for the review. Nice looking pen. I have never used an ebonite pen, and not even an ebonite feed. May give this pen a try.

It’s a very nice looking pen but I feel too much for too little. I just purchased a all ebonite Ranga 8B which is the same size, all ebonite including the feed, with a YoWo nib for $78. It’s also shiny black but does come with a clip. I’ll see how it compares when I get it this week.

I noticed that the pens used as examples of ebonite products on Wikipedia had a similar roughness on their threads that you noticed under your lens. Maybe it's unavoidable when using ebonite.

Seems like a bargain priced King of Pen. I understand the advantage of ebonite in a feed. Is there an advantage to having an ebonite body as well, or this more of a tradition thing?
@stephanfeinen39236 жыл бұрын
I have a FPR Himalaya ebonite pen and the material feels different to the touch compared with acrylic pens or laquered metal pens. It feels warmer and not so hard (ebonite is a hard rubber and not a resin) and there is always the faint smell of sulfur. I'm not sure but rubber might be a bit more drop resistant than acrylic resin. But I don't see the point in chosing ebonite as material and then paint it over. It's a pity that ebonite isn't used anymore for standard pens but since it takes a lot of time to make it, I think this material is not suited for modern mass production.

@@stephanfeinen3923 You are right- ebomite feels warmer and more natural than any type of plastic or resin. I have been using Indian ebonite pens for over thirty years. I have not noticed much smell of sulphur. ( May be I got used to it!) I also agree with you that it is pointless to paint over the ebonite body. Both matte and polished versions of ebonite look great naturally. Now, we get it in many designs also. Ebonite tends to dull over time on direct exposure to sunlight; with a little care, they do well. All it needs is gentle wiping with soft cloth. You may be right about the ebonite material being not suitable for mass industrial production. All the ebonite pens I have ( over 60) are individually hand made. This kind of pen-making is like a cottage industry- specialised by only a few families. Above all, ebonite is more eco-friendly than almost all the alternative materials in pen-making. For this reason, I always choose eyedroppers, as they cut the use of plastic and complicated filling systems.

Hi David, Do you think there is a real difference between the feed you get with the pen or the optional ebonite feed?
@FigbootonPens6 жыл бұрын
While I haven't tested the plastic feed for this pen, in my experience, the difference isn't drastic. My ebonite feeds tend to be a bit wettet, but not drastically though.

How much would the price come down without the cigar box packaging, because I don’t need an empty cigar box taking up more junk space in my office. Overpriced and over...well, over everything. Nothing here to entice me to hand over $200-plus.
@colinmartin97976 жыл бұрын
Way overpriced. I voted on this and was sorely disappointed. They couldn't even make it a Japanese eyedropper like the opus 88. I have honestly been disappointed in every Wan her thing I own. The green ink is horrendous.
@nanjappa424 жыл бұрын
I agree with you totally. I have been using Indian ebonite pens for more than 30 years. ( I have more than 60 of them- most of them eyedropper. ) They have all been very good- every single one of them. Many of my pens are as big as this Wancher, and as good. I too have JOWo nib on some of them- but now our Indian nibs are quite good for ordinary writing. Each of my pens has also been hand made individually. With this background, I agree with you that this pen is highly overpriced. May be that is due to the high cost of living in Japan.

You didn't support the kickstarter? Was it because you didn't think it was worth it?
