I was there in 5/22 with my son and the place was mostly deserted and then a guy with no pants on , only a t-shirt came walking thru and talking to people as though everything was normal. We left and went up to Santa Monica pier. It was a whole different world. We had a great time. There were families out and couples and just ordinary people enjoying the day.

I lived in Santa Monica back in the 70s where I rented my first apartment. It was an awesome place to be. Visited Redondo a few years back and it was trashed. So heartbreaking. I am grateful my parents took me and my siblings to the beach early in our lives and regularly because those memories are beautiful. Definitely not what I see here.

I spent a month living in a hotel in Venice and I swear that it was the worst experience of my life. Just like in this video, you can hear the homeless people who sound like demons talking to themselves. The place is the worst beach I have ever been too. The people are straight up scary. It broke my heart to see a woman arrested in Venice who broke into a house for a SHOWER!!! Greed has decimated community to squaller with obviously no humanity. We are seeing this in Australia too. Blame lies at the feet of the corrupt politicians who have not done their jobs and sold off public housing and not built more. This is finally being addressed with our " Big Build". I just wish we were in a kinder world. There is just so much waste. BTW I do understand how some unhoused people are doing the wrong thing, and are confronting, however, one must consider that they are in flight or fight, survival mode.

I visited Venice Beach two days in a row back in 2003. It was a beautiful place to be with public entertainment along the walkways. It seems very different now with homeless setting home and looks like a beach slum.

Just came back from vacation driving up the West Coast from LA to Seattle on PCH 1 and 101. Hollywood, Venice Beach, and Santa Monica Pier nothing but tourist traps covered in trash, full of the homeless, with the scent of weed filling the air. A real disappointment...no desire to revisit those places. The rest of the coast was AMAZING!

I am from the gulf coast so I don’t know what the laws are in California when it comes to homeless situations like this but do they allow just anyone to camp out like this for any length of time and it’s legal? Or is it like one of those grey areas in law or something? I have been watching more video’s recently of situations like this and the majority of them seem to be in California. I know after Covid a lot of people ended up homeless or worse but I know in some states stuff like this is still illegal but they had a certain amount of time or something to allow it but they only had certain areas/counties that they could set up in……is it the same there or it’s just wherever they wanna stay at?

I had to live in tents every once in a while when I was in the Army. Training exercises in the middle of summer in the Mojave desert, with 120 degrees in the shade. Venice beach would have been much better weather.

First you have to clean up the city leaders. I don't know the answer for homeless people but you can't just say get out. There is no place to get out to. Every direction you turn they say get out. When you are this bad off you will need some help, some direction. America has some serious problems and we must help to make productive citizens of the homeless. Many are capable with a little help. Its not just in California it's in every city in America. We can't just execute those that have lost their way. I have been there and I was able to find my way out. Remember this, the older you get the harder it is. I'm approaching 70 and I could not go out and work now. You must get busy and build your social security so you can survive.

People don't want to work for such lousy wage, especially a job one may not like, a livable wage would make people want to work. Those illegal immigrants work because they have very limited to no other options, I've worked in those fields for years. I even met homeless people in northern California, sure, some are lazy. But, a good amount of them were priced out of their homes. Some are veterans that couldn't fit back into the civilian lifestyle. It's easy to have the police to come in and force them out. It makes me think this seKtor person actually likes a police state. Instead of helping the common and less fortunate people, the state is what the person roots for. We could invest in social housing like how Vienna, Austria does so that rent aren't so high.
