You both made the right decision with the light filter. Legionnaires disease is most often gotten from the vapor of bath/shower water due to not being heated enough to kill bacteria by a tank being set to low. The cold water in house never sets in a tank so is safe mostly. Thanks for showing your work, it's more helpful than generic schematic.

I have been a ford 350 Econoline camper for the last 30 years. I suggest you start over and not mount any water devices outside of the van. first off it makes damage to it far more likely. Secondly dirt and oil will accumulate on it and in some cases in it. thirdly it will limit your ability travel in cold weather as it will freeze. Even when the temperatures are in the 40*f -50*f range as the wind chill will be a consideration. All things considered having it all mounted inside the vehicle will be so much better in terms of use. I have my van set up to use external sources of waters for Showers like Lakes rivers or even small streams. I do also have a reservoir of 5 gallons in a regular blue water storage tank. For use when no water is available nearby, but those filters will clog really fast when you are using soaps of pretty much any kind. Because they all contain oils. So if you're going to use a reservoir system, be prepared to replace your filters about once a week. Lastly including some form of a bacteria filter will allow you to cleanse the water to the level you can use for drinking purposes.

I built my DIY endless shower with the filtration before the holding tank so clean water is always present at the pump, water heater, pressure gauge and spin down filter. The holding tank can be easily cleaned when necessary. This way, the system stays cleaner. Since it has such good filtration ability, mine seconds as a drinkable water supply after a filter replacement and tank bypass valve installed. I added an inline differential purity tester to ensure I know when to replace the filters. So, if I ever find myself needing drinkable water and a water source is available, I can make it safe to drink without boiling it. Having a good supply of various filter elements is a must for my situation. I am saving for a UV device at this time to eliminate the bio filter elements. HAPPY TRAILS!!

Hey there! Thanks so much for watching. We are getting our hot water from our hydronic system. We have 2 heat exchangers. Great video! Keep it up! The recirculating shower thing is really happening now, every video like this makes it seem more and more doable. I'm wondering why you chose to mount all the filters under the van given that you have to inspect them and change them relatively often - do you have any regrets around that yet? The pump and accumulator I get for noise, seems really clever to have it outside the van or at least in an enclosed box somewhere to reduce vibrations and noise, filters less so IMO. Also, I'm a novice at this, but is one of the filters a coal filter? I thought that step was important for smells etc... Also also, why is the spindown filter and the sediment filters after the pump? I'm not sure what makes the most sense but I would think it's best to have as clean water as possible run through the pump no?
@gavingrantham1363 жыл бұрын
I would have agreed on the fact that the spin-down filter should have been before the pump - but it looks as if they have a smaller filter just before - the other thing is that if they use something like a sponge type trap at the exit of the shower drain before entering the tank, this would collect all the bigger particles, then the spin-down filter will be in the correct spot, as it would help to catch most of the so called bigger micro bit before entering the 20/10/5 micron filters as they are pretty expensive to be replacing every 4-8 weeks. It's easier to remove & clean say once a week. The UV light / filter helps break down the smell and bacteria as the last stage of the filtration system, but they could implement a 20 micron char-coal filter before the 10&5 filters as this would also help. A teaspoon or two of bleach in the water tank at the end of the shower period would be more cost effective way, than the char-coal filter.
@joaare37953 жыл бұрын
Interesting arrangement. I think you have to move the first filter between the tank and the pump, it is this filter that gets the most particles in the water to be removed and I doubt if the pump is so fond of those particles. Another question must be, will you never experience temperatures below freezing where you will use the van?
@WanderfulRevolution3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! We had considered putting the spin down before the pump but the schematic we were following had it after. We are going to closely monitor it. We may end up rerunning the tubing to put the spin down first. Definitely something to consider. Thanks for the suggestion. For the most part we plan to chase moderate temps. We may experience freezing from time to time. We plan to drain/winterize the system in those situations and just use our sink for “bird baths.” We would have loved to put everything inside but just couldn’t make that work with the real estate we have available.

My question was, will you be traveling into cold areas, below freezing? If you are, do you think this will freeze on the outside?
@WanderfulRevolution3 жыл бұрын
We don’t plan to travel into extreme cold weather for the most part. We plan to stay above freezing as much as possible. It would definitely freeze it those temps. When we do find ourselves in cold situations, we will most likely purge and/or winterize if necessary. In that situation we would just have to use our sink for “baths.” For our travels plans we think it will work pretty well though.
@juliah30693 жыл бұрын
okay.. but the re-circulated water? does it go back through the water heater?
@WanderfulRevolution3 жыл бұрын
@@juliah3069 yes. It’s a closed loop system. The shower water leaves the shower and goes into the tank. The water is then pumped out of the tank and through the series of filters and then back to the shower. It continuously recirculates through. We will change the water (5 gallon) in the tank about once a week.

Hey Guys, quick Suggestion! Why not filter the shower water and store it fresh in the container, Instead of storing it after showers. Basically .. use the same system but in reverse. I'm only saying this because ... The shower water contains a lot of dead skin and micro bacteria that can easily pass the micron filter when is decomposed if the shower water is stored clean-er :D all of them risky factors can be erased.
@WanderfulRevolution3 жыл бұрын
The issue with that is that we feel we would need 2 pumps to get the water through the system. We would definitely prefer to store clean water which is why we continue to filter for about 10 minutes after a shower. We are continuing to work in making a better system

Add some Epsom salts to the water. It will bond with the soap and a lot of the soap will get caught in the filters
@inchvans82963 жыл бұрын
@timothy Powell, you’re right. There’s absolutely nothing those filters will do to remove soap. As a matter of fact, the soap will remove the ability to filter much of anything from the water, and will reduce the flow rate of anything it touches. Nobody talks about this. These “showers” are recirculating rinsers. You can filter and sterilize plain water over end over again but the second you put soap in there it’s done. You can rinse for a few days and then you can soap up once and purge your water directly. The first time soap gets into the tank, or the filters, you’re replacing those filters or they’re completely useless. Especially the carbon filters.
@Toro-Tor2 жыл бұрын
How about an update video on this? As with so many other systems of similar build, you will have a few problems with this system, especially on the filtration side: When not in use, that sif-water stands inside the filters and pipes and will become smelly quickly (living bacteria). With all tose bends in the pies it is impossible to empty it. - You dont ever wana shower in that later on. Also, the pump you are using is "diaphragm-pump", It´s got 4 or 5 tiny reed-vales and something like a hair will disable this pump. The accumulator is not necessary and the UV-zapper will slow down the water-flow extremely. What about cold weather? if water freezes in that system it will break your tank, pump, accumulator, pipes, filters ... I hanvn´t watched the rest of the videos, but most importantly, I hope you DO NOT RUN RECYCLED WATER THROUGH THE SAME HEATER as the hot water you use in the kitchen. YOU WILL GET SICK - GUARANTEED. Solve all these problems - with a home-build vertical filter, with a drain pipe downwards - back-rinse that filter with fresh water after the shower. - air-vent that filter when not in use - filter before pump, heat after pump - use completely isolated water system for shower-recycling (seperate pipes & heater of the rest) - get rid of expensive water-heater and use 12V induction. (google "ZVS-Heater", and build your own heater-spiral)

Have you ever had a bath? You can sit in the water as long as you want and will not circulate the water. Why can you the same with the shower? I meant it seems like waste of money to me

Yes I have had a bath, but I’ve never used that same bath water for a week and my baths have always used more than 5-7 gallons of water. The idea is to conserve and water and be able to stay out longer with refills. It costs a little more than a traditional shower but it works for us.
