Wandering around Crockett, CA

CROCKETT reminds me of San Fran. I had a couple of neighbors who retired from that c&h refinery. They said it was pretty sweet to work there :). Thanks for sharing and Happy Wandering

Thanks for visiting! I’m a teacher at the middle school here in Crockett, and live less than a mile away in town. I’ve enjoyed living here, bike commute, cheaper rent for a nice area compared to surrounding cities, and a surprisingly good bar/music/food scene!

You always fine beautiful areas when wandering, but The Old Homestead was a surprise to me, across from the sugar refinery. I bet the inside of the house is pretty. Thanks.

Oh my I remember the Carquinez bridge. Gone over that bridge so many times and always wondered about the little settlement below. Good thing Crockett has that beautiful Homestead! The rest of the "city" looks pretty forlorn!

Hey, Deb! Do you remember that the Carquinez Bridge is actually a pair of parallel bridges? Yes, the Old Homestead was beautiful, and a great place to discover on my walk through a quirky, little time-forgotten town! @@inspiredtowander I do remember that Carquinez bridge was two lanes. That bridge always made me so nervous. It's a huge, all metal frame with a loud metal surface to drive on. You didn't spend much time in the "town"...surely there must be SOMETHING more to it, being in the famous Bay area. I wonder if it has a "country" area to it that has some open land? Maybe they will decorate for Christmas......

@@gotrandy Actually, I spent a lot more time in town than I showed on video. I was there several hours, but I try to keep my videos much shorter. I would have liked to explore some of the hiking trails in the hills there, so maybe in the future, I will do that. There is an obvious "artsy" presence in town that might also be an interesting exploration. I'm not that fond of driving to some of these places on Highway 80 anymore....it is so busy, so fast, and there are so many crazy drivers! There are so other places to explore.....so much to see....so little time! Thanks, Deb!

I have scrolled through this town several times on Google Maps street view, I don't know why it just seems to intrigued me. The streets that climb way up have the bridge and all it's entrance and exit ramps seemingly right in their back yards or in clear view at the same level...

Hmmm . . . Crockett looks a bit "dumpy" to me (sorry, Crockett residents). Glad you did this tour . . . now I know which town to avoid! Those sidewalks are not wheelchair-accessible. Strange little place.

HI Lilia! Yeah, those sidewalks with multiple steps along the way are definitely not wheelchair accessible. As with any city, there are pros and cons, and some of them are very subjective. It was interesting to me to find out that there has been a population decline in Crockett...although I don't know the reasons for that. Thanks for watching, Lilia!
