This is the proper spelling for the huaco indians, and later was changed to Waco. Born and raised here, I've seen a lot of changes here, and still more changes to come.

I traveled through there a few years ago. And I had stopped at the Ranger museum as well as Dr Pepper. The funny thing was as we entered the door the attendant told us that sometime that day we'd hit the one millionth customer. And he was certain it would happen soon. Sure enough 6 people ahead of me was one million. Several of us afterwards got a gift card to Whataburger. They were also introducing the Dr Pepper shakes. Yes I got a card and had lunch at Whataburger.

Next time you come through Waco try CUPPS drive in by Baylor, or Kitoks on 18th st. Best burgers in town, old style homemade, not chain.

I drove through Waco on my way to Temple, the bars on the windows and doors of peoples houses threw me off, it looked like a dangerous city, you changed my mind, I had no idea Waco has this much history, I will have to stop in on my next trip to Texas.
@pamelakrumvieda31532 жыл бұрын
Some parts I would call dangerous. The Magnolia Silos have created an island of inviting food and shopping near downtown that keeps expanding outwards.

East and north Waco have the most crime. There are other pockets that get a little sketchy along Valley Mills Dr. The best places are Robinson, Hewitt and Woodway. The police are very active in those towns, so watch how you drive.

The city name is pronounced " Way-co", but the Indians who lived here were pronounced " WAH-CO". Big Red also originated in Waco. People come to Texas, to Waco and load up on cases of Big Red to take home to their state.

I've been to the Texas Ranger museum twice and really enjoyed it. If I ever get back to Waco I'll definitely want to check out the Dr. Pepper museum and walk across the old suspension bridge. I was there in 2016 just a few days after the floods and the river was still pretty high and everything was still soggy, so I couldn't walk along the riverbank. But I love to go around the country and visit local historical sights and find out about local history. Thanks Mr. Secrets! Hook 'em horns!

My great, great, great grandparents came to Waco from Germany in the 1800s. I have a lot of family buried there. My great grandmother would tell me stories about growing up there at the turn of the century. Even though I've never lived in Waco, part of me considers it home in a way.

This was the historic tour of Waco. A bit geeky, nothing wrong with that. There is a lot more to Waco, especially downtown. For shopping The Silos, Spice Village, and other small street side shops are wonderful all along Austin Street and nearby cross streets. For food, Portofinos for Itialian, Hecho En Waco for upscale Mexican, Buzzard Billy's nearby on the water for cajun seafood. Union Hall has a variety of good and unique casual food in a food court style setting. For a coffee/tea in an adorable book store, Fabled cannot be missed.

My channel generally features much smaller historic towns, but for a city the size of Waco I can only select a few its many attractions to keep the video to a normal length. I probably won't do any more videos for cities as large as Waco unless the focus is on a specific topic.

I grew up 7 miles north of Temple and 28 miles south of Waco. We did most of our shopping in Temple, but occasionally we would go to downtown Waco in the 1950s and 60s to shop, but in the late 1960s, we would go to the new malls, especially Lake Air. Temple did not have a mall at that time. One of my cousins was killed in the Waco tornado of May 1953, and several more relatives lived in Waco that we would visit. We also went to Cameron Park in Waco and Lovers' Leap, which scared me as a child.
