In this video, we check out some gravel bars late in the season. All too soon the seasonal rains will wash over the gravel bar renewing it. This yearly cycle of seasonal rains washes stone eroded out of the landscape to the sea in an endless cycle of uplift and erosion.
Every year different concentrations of stone are revealed. Rockhounding in volcanic zones sets the stage for the ultimate geologic lottery. From plume agate to garnet and amethyst, to opal, silica rich fluids from volcanic zones provide the ingredients to produce a dizzying array of stones.
The continual cycle of uplift and erosion has only begun to reveal the result of volcanic creation in this area. This lesson is frequently overlooked by those who provide insight into the planet we inhabit. The only constants on our planet is that is is constantly changing, evolving in form, and teaching us new lessons about our natural world.
