I’ve used the Gorilla tape for various things around the house, never for RV use, and I have to say that stuff is really strong. Once it’s on, it’s on to stay! I’ve never tried to remove it with a heat gun though. Great comparison test you did. I’m interested to see what they look like after a year.

Me too. Supposedly Eternabond has better UV protection. We will see.

I just started to “replace” my caulk seals with an overlay of Eternabond. This video gives me a great reference for another option for quick fixes. I appreciate your time in putting this together.

Very impressive Cory I’ve had black 4 inch gorilla tape on my underbelly of the trailer after doing a grey tank valve it’s been on there 5 years and still holding probably because it never sees the sun 🌞

I too just used black gorilla tape to seal my underbelly hopefully it holds up I cleaned it real well and applied it in 70 degree temp. Time will tell I guess

I used flex tape to stop leaks on the roof of my 2011 Ford Escape. It’s crap. A few thousand miles down the road and through some weather and the tape separated from the adhesive. Had to stop now and then to cut bits off because it was flapping in the wind. Very annoying. Not easy getting the adhesive off the truck either.

Intertaining test! Results are a little surprising, I would have thought flex would have done better just because it’s everywhere and advertised heavily
@tim93242 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Black flex tape has held up well on my slide topper that was tearing on the ends. I used eternabond tape on the roof edges like you did and that stuff isn’t budging.

Would be neat to come up with a way to test these products with water to check for their sealing capabilities against water intrusion.

Awesome video I plan on using a sealing tape and was leaning towards eternabond. This video reaffirms my choice.

I like your tests. (I duplicated your TP test and got the same result). Being from the Pacific Northwest, I'd be interested in seeing a test involving water proofing with these tapes. Keep it up!

I don't think a pull test is as relevant as a water intrusion test. Try devising a soaking test to keep them completely immersed in water at different temperatures. Maybe apply them over a small strip of paper onto a sheet of glass? Then see which one allows water to get to the paper? I sense the Eternabond and Gorilla Tape are very similar in construction. There's plenty of Eternabond knock-offs, which Gorilla Tape appears to be. Flex tape appears to be a flimsy version... I would NOT trust that long term without a butyl tape adhesive backer... and the thinner vinyl.

Bought a flex seal product once and it was crap, didn't hold up at all. Never again will I waste my money on their products. It's interesting to see that the Gorilla product is comparable to the long trusted Eternabond. I carry a roll but haven't needed it yet.

I got to answer my own question about the Dicor Sealtite tape. I put it on the TV antenna on the project camper. Three days later I realized that I would have to use a lighter small profile antenna on it due to the 1/4 inch plywood roof. The Dicor tape pulled right up with ease. Will it seal...I don't know. Will it last for months on the roof...I have no confidence in it.

great as usual corey, be interesting on the long term price wise they are very close' eternabond when you buy the 50ft is 1.28ft currently gorilla is 1.30ft roughly the issue with gorilla , for me atleast would be its amazing for repairs and fixes but to seal a roof i think id want eternabond mainly so i can do the roof sides in one full length piece. thats the only real big plus to eternabond either way they are NOT coming off easily thats for sure!

Really appreciate this (and your follow-up) video on this subject, however you should know that when I reached out to the folks at Gorilla, they gave me the following response when I asked them about using this tape on RV roofs (compared to the 15-year warranty offered by HB Fuller for EternaBond): Thank you for contacting The Gorilla Glue Company. While we stand behind the quality of our products, we do not offer an official warranty due to the wide variety of uses our consumers find for our products. In your particular application, we do not recommend our Patch and Seal tape for use on seams and would not recommend our product for your project. I hope this information helps! Thank you for contacting us! If we can be of any further assistance, please let us know. Sincerely, Christopher Consumer Support Specialist
@high.cinematography10 ай бұрын
We do not recommend the sealant tape on seams for a variety of reasons. Only the non adhesive side of the tape is waterproof so moisture can make it's way throught he seams and affect the adhesive side which will affect it's ability to bond properly. This tape is also not designed to adhere two separate surfaces together (to hang or bind) as it is a patch. Taping the seams creates that effect. There is a disclaimer on the core of the tape directly from our testing laboratories: Performance will be dependent on surfaces and conditions. Surfaces must be clean, smooth and non-porous. Water must be pressed out from underneath tape. Not for use on seams, applications under pressure, or automotive applications under the hood. May not adhere to silicone or water-repellent materials. Do not use to hang. Permanent: may damage surface if removed. The above disclaimer is after extensive testing and data collection was done on the product. This is not to say consumers do not have success with these types of applications. Our consumers are very creative and try applications we never test for. But as a company we do not recommend our product for your application. I hope this helps! If we can be of any further assistance, please let us know. Sincerely, Christopher Consumer Support Specialist

That’s a great question. Many manufacturers are using it on slides so I would assume so. Just make sure it’s not in an area where it may bind.

I treated the roof of our RV with Etrrnabond tape about 6+ years ago because I got tired of the mess and time involved to caulk every couple of years. Eternabond has held fast and shows no sign of weathering. And we've had no leaks. I trust Eternabond completely and would never use a product on my roof that's not RV specific just to save a couple bucks. To really test this properly, you should leave it out year round for 3+ years. Eternabond has performed great in all extremes of our northern climate.
