Thanks for the testing review!! Very timely, just ordered one yesterday. Have always been slightly uncomfortable traveling with the fridge running on propane (to keep it cool). Will shut off one of the tanks and install this on the remaining one. Good peace of mind to know it will shut off the gas if something really bad happens while in route.

My question is when you rotate the tanks so it will fit, the bar you tightened down wasn’t gripping on the handle area of the tank, it looked as if you tightened it up right on the top of the tank, did I miss something. I purchased two as I also have two tanks but finding the right position for the tanks is a challenge as my cover catches on the hoses and I can smell propane from it moving the hoses down

Correct, I was worried about the bar not gripping the handle... until I tried it. It’s every bit as solid as when the bar IS gripping the handle. Quite frankly if I hit a pothole so large it shakes these loose as they sit those two tiny notches on the bar “gripping” the handles of the propane tanks aren’t going to hold it either.

With all modern tanks now for years i have read that valve on tank shuts gas off so why would you need this?

No, we negotiated the topper during the buying process. Love it though. We will certainly have them on any rig in the future (if there is ever another one)

So one issue I have is knowing how much propane I actually have, how do you monitor tank level?

I check by weight. It takes a significant amount of time for us to go through even 1 tank as weekenders. Also, I only run one tank at a time. If I do happen to run out it isn't a problem since I have another waiting to go.
