WANDSWORTH & BATTERSEA AT WAR - BY JASON BLACKMAN

hi i spend a lot of time making these small films of when the days were a lot different. most of the photos are from old books or old post cards. i love doing this to show you how life was way back then. some people can not buy books or find things to do with local history so this is why i have done this for all of you.
i do not do this to make money in any way, it is just for free so i do hope you all like the small films i do as it takes a long time to do. i did use to live in SW London but now moved to bucks where i find this is much better for me and my family.

my dad told me once there was a yard next to where he lived as a boy during the war two men had a brand new car each they went to fight and never came back over the years as he grew up he watched the two cars rot and rust away brave men one and all .

Thanks for the great upload. An old friend of mine, Mick Donaghey (RIP) that lived in Winders Road worked on the Ak Ak guns at Battersea park and Clapham Common. I have a song on youtube called The Dance of Life that I wrote about him. He told me about a lot of things, but one of the worst was when a doodlebug bomb hit some flats by the dog's home bridge - tragic!

I know Shillington St very well I was born in Wayford in 56 My sister born 49 Remember those prefabs very well

my grandad was killed by that bomb on wandsworth common station in 1941 at around midnight just before he was to end his shift he was a forman there also killed was a 19 year booking clerk i worked also worked there from 1957 to 1960
