Imagine being 18 in 1984 and driving home with the windows down on a beautiful midwest summer night about 10 PM and this coming on the radio. That happened to me, and I still remember the feeling. It was otherworldly.

For me I was pretty young, but I stayed home from school, sick, and kind of in a weird haze in the morning. My mom had the radio on getting ready for work. For some reason it always stuck with me, and I always wondered why. It didn’t seem significant. Guess it was just the music.

December 1986- My friends and I read in a alternative/wave magazine that Wang Chung would be performing at Rainbow Music Hall in Denver, Co in Jan. 1987. We make the trek by car 125 miles from Sterling Co to Denver in a snow storm that was quickly turning worse. We get to Rainbow Music Hall to find out that the concert was canceled due to weather. We had called that morning and all was fine. We ended up eating at Wendy's and driving for five hours back to Sterling which would have normally taken two hours in good weather. That's my Wang Chung story.

It was a dark winter evening in 1984 on a train going through the green English countryside on my way back to London i remember listening to this on my Walkman. While I listened to this i stared out the window there was something almost mystical about the dark forests and green fields rushing past my window. Peculiar that you mention '84... I tell people that's the very year when good original music started to die a slow death. Plenty of exciting and talented musicians popped up after 84 extending the era of great music for several more years but by the time I got to high school, 95% of the people were all about rap.

On any of the Western Illinois or Eastern Iowa border radio stations...But I heard it all the time in 86/87 as a freshman in HS on the Peoria IL radio 📻 stations & in many late 80s movies. I actually thought this song was released in 86. 🤔 Along with Everybody Have Fun Tonight. When I hear this song, I always think of freshman year 86/87 instead of late 82/83.

Agreed 1000%. The 1980's music was so different from so many bands-- they seemed to use all the instruments they could get their hands on to layer the sound of a song-- used all the tools in the box, so to speak. Now-- not sure I hear anything different in any genre; country sounds the same, pop/rb/soul sounds the same and they use sampling, looping and autotune-- nobody is going to actually convince me they are musicians/singers learning their craft as much as they are convenience and routine. The 1980's are so far above what's going on today, and it's not even close.
