I love how songs like this always pay homage to that old place you spent most of your youth at, now nothing more than a crumbling crypt with nothing but the ghosts of days gone by holding the walls together. We all had that special place we loved. You walk by it, or drive by it and stop to look at it, and your heart fills with the joy of your old memories of the good times you had, but your eyes fill with tears as your realize those days are gone. After a brief reflection of the old days, you smile and move on with a renewed vigor, knowing that it was better to have had those old days and good times, than never to have had them at all, and you realize how much time really has gone by, as we must find a way to deal with the fact that we aren't kids anymore. Such is the dilemma for us all...

+Kain Nosgoth Your commentary captures the mood and zeitgeist of this song perfectly, as well as the challenge for those of us who were there in the 80s now having to reckon with our looming mortality.

Prairie Wolfdog Thanks, friend. I was there in the 80's too, as I now clock in at 51. I always was very sentimental about the old places is used to hang out at when I was a kid, and be they still there or under a new name, or an old deserted building, my heart still longs to go thru them "just one more time" to look at the place or to just hang for a moment and remember everything that happened in a room or corner of the place. For that reason, "House We Used To Live In "by the Smithereens was always one of my fave songs.

I agree. Time shows us that nothing can remain the same forever, but for those places that DO remain, it's like a reward life gives us, that we can still go to some of the same old places we went as kids, and celebrate those who are still with us and remember with a wink a smile and a tear, those who are not. Memories are two-sided, they can make you happy, and they can hurt like hell. I've had a bit of both in my life.

My introduction to this song was through a little game called Vice City on the PS2. I've always loved it because of the game, and I remember all of the memories of driving around through the night, listening to this, Out of Touch by Hall & Oates, and Africa by Toto. However, this one struck different with me. I'm not sure why I love this one so much compared to the others. Last year (2022), Ray Liotta, legendary actor and the voice of the game's protagonist, passed away. Now everytime I hear this song, I imagine Tommy Vercetti strutting the streets in his tuxedo, living the high life Thank you, Ray Liotta and Wang Chung! 💖

Will Francis 80’s videos were filled with so much of that kind of surreal imagery. It’s because real artists were involved in conceptualizing, and they weren’t as constrained. This song, I want to break free by Queen, The Reflex by Duran Duran and Don't tell me by Blancmange were the songs that epitomised that summer to me, in the days when I cared about music. Not sure what changed really, I stopped caring sometime in the 90s when hip hop and rap really took off and well crafted pop songs like this went out of fashion. Must be my age I guess.

Wang Chung is still a cool band...those catchy new wave sounds of the 1980s that can never be recreated...due to technological advances in music equipment...it's not easy to recreate that retro sound with modern music equipment...though with Wang chung..these guys can do it..so glad Wang Chung came back last with a new album of reworked songs..amazing how jack and nick still sound as good as ever..their wonderful voices restored in time.

The 80's were the best period. Graduated in 84, I still love the songs from then. Bring back all the feelings, and the memories. Why I'm here!

The best part to me? The hatching disco-egg! And the wonderful disco-egg girl's skin.

Went to Six Flags Magic Mountain in the early 80s, Wang Chung performed there, time sure has passed us by, it seems like it was just yesterday that we went there!!! It is located in the Valencia neighborhood of Santa Clarita, California, We hope to go there before end of life here on earth>>>!!!! Those were some very good times>>>>>>!!!!!!!!!!
