Can't really tell how much lean was in the stem from that one shot, but I'm guessing the branches on the house side put just enough torque in the fall to make it a little more interesting. Everything else looked good, as I see it. Like Todd said, you could've gunned a little more uphill, or used a sizwheel or tapered your hinge .... But you, the family, the pets, and the structures are all safe and sound, that's a win in my book. Stay safe.

video never does it justice, primarily it was weighted heavily with branches on the down hill side, and just a slight lean off center because of that, I just replied to him - what I didn't really show in the video was the big branch on another tree blocking the path to go straight up the hill with it... that would have been my #1 choice but I would have had to climb to get that branch out of the way... at the end of the day, I feel exactly as you said, everyone's safe and the job is done, that's all I can ask for! Appreciate the time taken to comment !

Well the good thing is it's on the ground and no damage or injuries! I'm not a professional feller or logger, just a powersaw lover and firewood guy. A sizwheel would've worked well here or maybe gunned up hill further. I prefer a little more hingewood myself for control, luckily you didn't lose it downhill. Looks like a dead ash tree possibly, gotta be careful no matter what! Stay sharp!

appreciate the time taken for the comment, the problem that I didn't really show in the video here was that there was a 8-10" diameter branch off of a different tree that was blocking any real possibility of aiming it more up hill than I did... I'm glad it went well, it was certainly a gut check and not something I plan to make a habit of !

I don't know if I have the stomach for climbing much higher than a tree stand... I'd be interested in trying it but would definitely want to learn from someone !
