I've actually laid rubber garage/workshop flooring over my kitchen tiles. It's much spongier than anything I've tried and easy to wash. If it's really grubby I can lift up the piece (it's a small kitchen), take it outside and wash it off. I actually started by having it all over my courtyard pavers. I've lived in my home for over 20 years and have tried absolutely everything to get rid of the weeds (I'm in Australia by the way, which should help you appreciate how bad the weeds and creepy things can be). Completely blocking the pavers out with rubber has been the only thing that has made a huge difference. My garden beds have weed mat under the mulch but it's not as effective and would probably be a trip hazard. The black rubber in the kitchen and courtyard is really good at stopping me from slipping over too. So many benefits but...shhhh... don't tell anyone or the shops will start putting the price up like every other type of flooring!

After having cats forever, I finally tried 'World's Best' kitty litter; it's made of corn cobs and is FLUSHABLE. I have a septic tank, no problems yet after a full year but it's flushable to a regular sanitary sewer also. Most people don't know clay litter is a recycling disaster and it's HEAVY in the garbage. With the corn cob litter, there is utterly no smell, you just scoop and put in the toilet, and flush. Super easy if the box is near a bathroom and a large bag lasts almost a YEAR for one cat. I order it through Chewy or Amazon so the 'delivery' is done for me.

Either sand, stain and varnish your bathroom ladder towel rack or paint it. Then you don't have to worry about changing out the hanging configuration. Or you could replace the rungs with decorative spindles. Also cute in a bedroom or closet for hanging necklaces, scarves, or men's ties.

You are right on with this video! Your cat, Mia, looks exactly like my cat, Millie. We love her, but she is a dirty little pig. Kitty litter all over the place. She makes so much work for me. I have a black console TV cabinet. You are so right about dust on black furniture. So right on toilet paper holders. Both my holders are the easy to just slide on, but my son still leaves the new roll on the top. I bought the 2 white tissue covers you showed, but the holes weren’t big enough, so they’re in my closet collecting dust. I now, have better ones that fit, and I love them. One is white plastic, the other is a soft brass from Amazon. Every time I want to purchase a decor item, I imagine how difficult it would be to dust or maintain. You are right on with the black trimmed windows. Don’t buy expensive trends. They will not be trendy for very long. BTW: How do you clean faux plant/ stems? I have a few and I love them. They are making them so realistic now. I love when you do these videos. 👍🏻

These are all such great tips! I practice all of these when possible. Harder if one rents. Taking the toilet seat off is not necessary if one has a good brush and can easily push water around. Also washing the toilet often helps with any build up. That way once a year removing the toilet seat will find little to clean. As for black. I have been very against black in a home for any reason. No clothing, no furniture, no blankets and no appliances in black. Some dark antique furniture has been allowed, but has little grooves. My husband bought a black truck off our adult children recently. I do dislike it, but it will be a work truck and I do not have to clean it. Also, people really have to consider how black absorbs light. Too much black can cause depressing moods. I am a white, bright person. And no dark walls, cannot see spiders webs starting up... 🤭🤭 As for tiling in the shower, use very large ceramic or porcelain panels, it helps reduce grout cleaning. Also once the grout is new, please take the time to seal it well. At least two to three coats of sealant helps enormously. Floors and walls. People must research the types of products they use for floors and counter tops. NO CONCRETE floors or counters, NO STONE or natural granite. Ideally quartz composites are best. They are highly durable, do not stain, and any severe scratches can be buffed out and polished quite easily. Although I do not have that problem. Even in the kitchen quartz counters, I use plenty of cutting boards or trays to place items. As for natural woods, learn how to place protector plates, or mats etc. As for plants always use proper trays areas for placing plants.

I have very narrow picture shelves in my bedroom. They're the ones from IKEA that are so affordable such as MOSSLANDA Picture ledge- there are other ones too. It's placed right along the wall a little above my bedhead and then joins for a half wall along the next wall. Under each I drilled holes evenly and added white cup hooks. On the smaller section of shelf I have some of my jewellery boards. Under this shelf I have long necklaces and hair ornaments hanging from the hooks. On the shelf along the whole wall above my bed I have a variety of artwork. I can change this around and substitute pictures till my heart's content. Under this shelf I used to hang some star-shaped lights. I eventually didn't like having the lights right above me so took it down. Nevertheless, in general, these picture ledges have worked for me for well for over 10 years now. It's so good I've now added it over my toilet in the bathroom to store all the scents and sprays. My suggestion to you regarding the hanging towel rail is to find a picture or even a small, narrow set of baskets. Hang them one below the next with some rope or plastic coated wire so they become useful storage compartments. If they and your pieces you intend to put in them are lightweight you can use one rope/wire instead of fixing separate screws to the wall. After you've hung it over the hook at the top, take some pretty ribbon (not country style) make a good bow in the top with long tails to hang down to hide the picture hanger. Tuck the long ribbons into place around the hanging cords or let it free flow if you prefer. You could even put a decorative plate over the top of the screw.

Soap stone absorbs heat, and releases it slowly. Thats why your chicken defrosts where it touched the soap stone. Its use in some wood stoves because of that trait. As a fire fwindles before restocking it, the soap stone will radiate the heat it absorbed. Also helps with fire proofing. So yours absorbed more heat from the room than the air around your chicken.

All true! I've been battling scale on my snake plant for MONTHS and have spent HOURS doing so. It must have floated in through the window screen it's in front of because my houseplants never go outside. I'm surprised these practically microscopic bugs haven't taken over the world with how hearty they are! 🤣 I swear to God I may have to rid my house of all plants if any of my other plants get infected with them, which I would hate to do! 😢 I don’t have the time and energy to deal with them on more than one plant. SO agree with anything black... shows the dust 2.4 seconds after you've dusted! 🤣 Good call on not getting windows trimmed in black for that very reason! True that pets are a lot of upkeep... my doggie is the reason of most of the mess in my house (well, along with my husband 😅) but also the reason for so many smiles, laughter, cuddles and love, so it's worth the trade off for me. Great tips & ideas. I especially agree about the loo roll holder. I live alone & find it a real pain when I have to put a new loo roll on in my bathroom & loo. I detest plants & don’t have any in my house. If anyone gives me one as a present I either give it to my sister-in-law or throw it away. I hate dark furniture & only have white shelving. Can’t see the dust that way. Just curious, in the US etc why do they say tile & not tiles? There’s more than one.

I wonder why in the UK they say "He's in hospital", we say "He's in THE hospital" 😅

i don't know 'why'--it's just our plural version of tiles. I love hearing British English!

Hahaha I have 3 green walls 2 are W12'xH9' and one w6x9'h and 5 trees, and many many other pots and a terrarium , I must have over 1000 plants, I never counted and I never will. I do not have any decor, not even picture frames. My house is very easy to clean despite the size, all concrete floors, no area rugs, only in the living room, curtains only in the bedrooms... I like it very very simple, but I loooove the plants and the dogs, and you're right, they are a lot of work but totally worth it.

You can buy the little sticks that are Paintable on either side to make your windows look like they have those lines in them like leaded windows. Besides, what's a husband for if you can't help you with your design inspirations?

I have 3 cats and they do make messes! One is a trouble Maker for sure LOL But I adore them they are my babies, and I have 3 teens. And my girls have hamsters. They are definitely worth the work and the mess. My heart breaks when I think of them getting old and passing. I keep a lint roller in my car to get the hair off my clothes before I go somewhere.

We had a cat that just got too old that my kids grew-up with (Noel). It was the HARDEST day to have to put her down. I dread that day with our sweet Mia!

Don't regret black casing. I have them and I hate them. They bring so much contrast that they make the room feel smaller, and none of my colors pair with black. I am even thinking of painting them XD

Not clear why a bit of dust or diorder is so stressful. Perhaps it reminds some people that life and our future is never completely under our control.

I have an TP holder like yours and I love it ! (If you can love a TP holder ) !!! I also think animals are worth everything, the mess, the cost, everything !! I just can’t imagine a life without a pet ! I also don’t buy trendy decor because I am just too lazy to change the decor out ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I donated 11 pieces of furniture. I no longer have a dresser. I use a coat tree with a tote for socks etc....I got rid of my couch because I happened to visit 3 unrelated friends .They surprised me by only having recliners. Simple is better

Don't get me going on pets, this was the killer of this video for me. I am a living being and the small amount of inconvenience I need to put up with having my cats is more than compensated by their company and love shared between us. I agree on wall to wall , carpets. Bad idea.

When I was young I adored houseplants and had a lot of them. I'm over it now, there are enough plants outside for me to enjoy. I think it's that maternal extinct that makes us need something to take care of.

Black furniture hack: use dryer sheets like Bounce instead of dusters or cloths. They reduce static meaning all those little particles (like dust but not just dust) won't stick. DON'T do this on floors. PLEASE.
