The Kia e-Niro has reached the end of the lease (😭) so we needed to get a car to tide us over until the next proper Till family EV arrives. Enter Onto! A great way of testing a car for a month (or more) and if you get it though your business, it's almost completely tax free.
It's not cheap, but it's inclusive of insurance and tax and there's even free charging with Shell and BP so it's not too bad a deal.
In this video I talk about the order process, show the delivery and a quick walk around of the car we got: a brand, spanking new DS 3 Crossback E-tense.

How does the delivery driver get back to his office, does he start walking 🤣Or is there a secondary car waiting for him to onboard the customer - in which case £50 is quite a good deal for delivery! Seems like a decent rental deal with insurance, breakdown cover and charging included with no upfront fees. Obviously longer lease is still a better deal overall, and better still to buy outright if finances allow it. However it's an interesting proposition for someone between cars or just needs a car for a couple of months.

I thought the 500 was going to be a second car, and the onto solution is a stop-gap until the main car is chosen. I'd use the onto option to allow me to really live with a car before settling on a 4 year lease. Maybe Andrew is waiting for the EV6?

As much as I understand that us viewers have no right to tell you how to live your life I really do hope the 500 wasn’t a decision heavily pressured by your wife. You yourself are completely aware of the cars short comings and especially with summer approaching the space will be a huge issue. That being said if your happy with it then I’m sure we are all looking forward to all the content it brings along with it.

Bit confused by on.to on the web site it says that “Use the vehicle for any commercial gain, business or occupation outside of travel to and from a place of permanent employment, occasional other journeys to employment meetings that are not intended for direct personal gain or use for social, domestic or pleasure” so what can you use it for?

Hello Andrew, I'm sure you've thoroughly looked into this but getting a Fiat 500E!!!!! Your lease period will be presumably 3, maybe 4 years and having watched your family travels during the time you've had with the Kia, cramming it with all your needs for a journey, feel the Fiat is going to be too small. You did mention you need two cars, so maybe the other car is the Jaguar E Pace which you're keeping quiet about. Good luck with it and I look forward to the many oncoming videos.

Yes! Completely free and I don't believe there are any restrictions.

so you get 1000 miles. so they give you 2 charge cards, I will take it since you did not say do they charge you for the use of them BUT then you get if you use your own home charger to charge the car you are not going to get the cost back ? which would there for mean you have an additional cost. have to say them bringing it to you is a good wage £50

Not bad. For just under £11 a day you can rent an EV, that's cheaper than something like Zipcar although obviously you'd hopefully never use one of those every day.

Hi Andrew, did I hear right your swapping the Niro for the Fiat 500e. Blimey that’s going to be quite a bit smaller than what you’re used to. I presume your second car will be a larger one because I can’t imagine you driving to Italy with the family and luggage in it. Saying that it would make a fun video watching you try. Great little car though. I think it has a pretty good range better than the mini.

I have just ordered a fiat 500 e cabriolet.. No room in the back and range ( whilst good ) is not the same as the Kia..So no long trips down to Italy with the family?

I don't think we'll do trips to Italy in the 500e, no. We will get a proper e-Niro replacement at some point though.

Welcome back and hope the move went ok. I'd be very interested to know why you went for the Zappi home charger and not one of the other units on the market. Plus how much you're being charged for the install. Currently i'm being told the 'tails' from my meter to the consumer unit need upgrading from 16mm to 25mm because of the extra load that the EV will put on the system, yet we're retired with minimal electrical usage.

I have 16mm tails with. DNO 80. AMP fuse. I have ZAPPI and able to charge at full power (7KW. 32amp). Also able to charge at same time a leaf using another charger. The ZAPPI can also be configured to throttle back the draw if it detects high usage within your house and so will always keep within household limits. Do not see why you need your 16mm upgraded to 25mm unless they are having to change your consumer unit. For my ZAPPI they installed a separate 40A RCBO outside of existing consumer unit.

You can't take the car to Europe as far as I know. You can exceed the mileage limit for an extra fee: £30 per 250 miles.

@@MrEV yer that was one of the limits we was not to impressed with ! On first road trip we did 1050 miles in 4 days and 6500 miles in first 3 months! Think of the extra cost 🧐😳 ! But with lockdowns we will have done 12000 miles about at 12 months so it evens out , but I bet they dont give you money back when you use less miles!
