From one Buckeye to another ... thank you for your reviews of the Timeless razors. It was your reviews that encouraged me to purchase the Timeless Titanium 0.68mm razor. I can't even tell I am shaving with a very sharp Personna comfort coated razor blade. Just effortless.... Not to mention, that your videos have helped me transition over the past 4 months to the wonderful world of classic wet shaving ... and honing in on my technique. At first, I used to chase the BBS shave, now I don't. My focus is to reduce my beard growth and enjoy a comfortable shaving experience, using a high quality razor (such as the Timeless Titanium 0.68mm, a great shave soap from artisans like PAA and Stirling, and incorporating other products such as Thayers, a great aftershave splash/cologne and post-shave balm combination into my routine. Thanks again!

I fully understand budgetary constraints. Luckily, there are many cost effective options out there from vintage Gillette razors such as the slim adjustable to a modern Rockwell "adjustable" razor with two double sided baseplates in zamak (6C) or stainless steel (6S). You will see videos on these Rockwell razors on this channel and others. Many recommend them as great razors to start with, which perform so well and are so versatile that you could start and stop your razor collection with one purchase. Razorock typically offers a nice Black Friday discount online direct. I am very fond of my vintage Gillette Aristocrat Jr, a TTO razor made in England which was sold in Canada as a Rocket razor. I am also very partial to my vintage Gillette The New short comb open comb 3 piece razor. Neither of these were particularly expensive. You just have to be patient on the auction site or on a shaving enthusiasts buy/sell/trade forum. What is the greatest bargain razor I own? The Schick Krona. It has a plastic handle, and isn't bling. But it is a great TTO upper mild aggression razor.
@philwilliams8328Ай бұрын
@@ivermec-tin666 Got a relatively good deal on a Gillette Slim adjustable which happened to be nickel plated by Razor Emporium. Looks and works like new. One of the _many_ problems with getting old is that you can't get out of your mind what things used to cost. Back in the 60's I shaved with a Gillette Blue tip razor which then cost under $2.00. I also have a Merkur 34C which also gives a nice shave.

Observations: I’m fond of collecting razors. I like the hobby very much. But we as shaving enthusiasts at times forget that we’re spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on razors that ultimately hold a blade costing between $.05 and maybe $.70. These inexpensive blades have a wide tolerance range and varying quality control levels not only between manufacturers and brands but also within a pack of 100 blades. I think it’s ironic in the whole pursuit of razor perfection or performance. Just something to put things in perspective. Secondly you stressed shower before or after shaving. I’ve learned that pre shave beard hydration is absolutely essential in getting a comfortable shave. It out weighs many other factors shaving enthusiasts stress over. I don’t shower prior to shaving, but I do spend at least 5 to 7 minutes or more wetting my face and beard with as hot of water as is comfortable prior to shaving; it’s imperative to do this. You’ll be surprised just how important this step is in shaving. I’m probably preaching to the choir here. If you go to a luxury barber shop, they don’t put a hot towel on your face before shaving just cause it feels good. It’s because it makes the shave MUCH MUCH better.
@OhioShavesАй бұрын
I really appreciate your thoughtful comment! It's always great to hear from fellow shaving enthusiasts who understand the nuances of this hobby. Your tips on pre-shave hydration are definitely something I'll keep in mind!

I agree, washing one's face with warm water before shaving will clean the skin of dirt and soften the beard and give a comfortable shave. I use Gillette 7 O' clock blades and get anywhere between 35 and 60 shaves per blade useing A $ 6 chinese butterfly razor. So impressed with these razors, I bought several. I use common toilet soap for lather. Shaving has now become an adventure instead of a tiresome job.
