Starting a new business on your own is pretty scary. What are the main things stopping you from taking the leap?

Came for the Metropolix videos, walked away with business inspiration... Wasnt expecting that! Videos great on both sides as well. Timing of this video is perfect as well. Spent the last few years in a good career whilst building my ex's company in the evenings and weekends in the understanding i take nothing until i leave my career to join take on half of the directorship only to have her break things off once it became successfull. Now back to the drawing board and having to work out a new business venture to start on my own from fresh again. Like you said it will be hard but the later freedom will be worth it. Thanks Jon hope the modular journey is going well

Thanks for sticking around! I’m still messing around with modular. It’s so much fun! Sounds like you have great start up experience now, even though it didn’t end up benefitting you. You can build on that for the next one! Good luck.

Great video Jon and a great message and take-away at the end. It will take me some time to digest and reflect on this but you hit very important and key points. Do you think someone can get rich by taking their salary and putting it in stocks and bonds? So you have equity ownership that way. And what happens if you fail your business? I think most people are afraid to fail so they stay stuck at a job they hate to afford the bills. Would love to see a video of how to prepare to quit your job to start a business and what your process was like. Also, really enjoyed the personal story there with the motorcycle! Thanks so much!!!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. You are right that this video opens up more questions which I plan to cover in future videos. Most new businesses fail (for example) so why should you follow my advice and start one? Well, I think there are ways to improve your chances of success. I also totally agree with long term investing in equities in order to get an element of share ownership but I don’t think people go about this the right way - there are too many people on KZbin giving out dodgy advice just to get views! I’ll keep putting out the videos hoping to address a lot of these concerns.

True on many parts! Being rich just isn't monetary value either, you can consider your time - your flexibilitiy, as other avenues as being rich in quality of life.

Great video Jon! I think it'd be great to get an idea of how you might have started earlier or what you would you have done earlier in life to prepare you to start a business. I for example am In my twenties, part way through a degree in Cyber Security and just dont really know where to even start if I want to 'own' something or build the skills to put myself in a solid position later on in life, or I suppose even what kind of business I'd want to build. I think theres so much advice out there, except its hard to extract the actually sound advice from the rubbish. Anyway thanks for the video Jon.

Good question! I am planning to do a video on just this topic. My short answer is to do two things. One quick. One a bit slower. First, read about business and starting a business. View this as an education just like your degree and starting learning. I would start by reading: The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco. Second, you should experience business. So you will need to get a job. Some people can start a business from their bedroom and drop out of university but they are the 0.001%. Learn how business works (the good and the bad) and keep learning how you would want to do it better and do it differently.

Hey, thanks a lot. I'm going to keep going and hopefully each video will improve on the last. That is the plan at least.
