A Hungarian Mig-19PM was lost because it hit what was probably a Yugoslav weather balloon with its right wing and broke the pitot tube off. So at supersonic flight the ARU was receiving 0 airspeed, and when the pilot tried to pitch up it gave "rough" elevator deflection, the plane flipped up and tore itself apart. Pilot survived though.

One thing I forgot to mention in the video, but wanted to, was about the wing fences on the MiG-19. My guess that the stall behaviour is happening because of the wing fences of only half the wing stalling and that is why the plane begins to slip. Not a technical expert but that is my guess.

What is your rudder input in turning? from the limited cockpit views available, it looks like you are not keeping your turns coordinated with the usage of the pedals, meaning asymetric stall of the wings can occur. If this happens, you will have an uncommanded roll towards the stalled wing, as this loses lift before the other one. The section where you show the inputs, there is no rudder movement at all, unless I'm mistaking. You kinda need pedals to fly aggresive maneuvers without risking departing the aircraft. You could do without in aircraft with automatic turn coordinators, the Mig19 isn't it. You can see your slip/skid indicator ball all over the place. You can see the effect of this when you start to input aileron, you see the adverse yaw of the nose of the aircraft, this needs to be countered with rudder input, aka step on the ball to keep it in the middle.

The farmer was always a weird plane to me. I flew the mig 21 for a long time and trialed the 19. Didn’t really like it but I’m slowly wanting to spend more money. Good video Engima

Its a really good dogfighter with great acceleration and fuel economy. A and performamce aside, this is one of the more meh modules, especially since its not even that old. Razbam kind of half assed this, would have made a great top notch module as well. As stated it is a great plane to fly.

I'm by no means a good dogfighter but I feel like the FM of the Mig19 hasnt changed all that much but rather how inputs are processed by it. What we helo drivers with shorter tabletop sticks like to do is introduce a bit of positive curvature to increase control distance in the extremes which makes slow flight and hovering more controllable, so I figured I do the opposite for the Mig19 and applied some negative curvature to the pitch axis which gives less travel in the extremes but more in the intermediate space, I feel like I got the plane much more controllable when rating again than without it

I got this module on sale and without a trial based on Enigma's enthusiasm. Early impression is there's a bit of a lack of attention to detail in the cockpit - the oversensitivity if you map "gunsight target size" to joystick buttons, the switches and gauge needles teleporting… however you don't need to look inside the cockpit all that much and it goes like a train!

I personally do not fly very many 'old' aircraft in game, because the jittery flight models intimidate me quite a bit, I also find the digitalized HSI, ADI, altitude, speed, and velocity vectors a very nice convenience. So something like the Tomcat is almost out of my comfort zone already. Despite that, I have to just mention that kill @3:25, that shit was so clean I could eat off of it. Almost looked like something you'd see happen in an F-16. Are the 30's as hard to aim as the Mirage's or are they even harder perhaps?

I find the MiG-19 guns to be one of the hardest to aim because there is so little margin for error (low ammo count) and bad nose authority. There is so little ammo that I typically only load one gun at a time so I can have more trigger time.

you got it the other way around you are _using the ARU_ by leaving it in auto. Also in reality its like a transmission for the control surfaces. You're essentially doing the equivalent of always riding in highest gear.

The thumbnail says not to touch it but in the video I say to touch it or to take it off auto. A lot of people have been very vehemently against taking it off auto so the thumbnail it was just more of a nod to that camp. As I have called myself a monkey and seeing their resistance to this made me think to try it and I found it works better for me.

Nice smooth shots! I like all the points you made and I definitely notice that bump in the gunsight too whe I try to pull the nose up to shoot. I not sure you ripped your wing at the end primarily because of the aru, I think you ripped it because of that m113 hitting you earlier and it was weakened. The aru gauge is is only at halfway when you ripped it and you look to be doing 800 Usually I change it to full long arm at 800 and you can wiggle the stick as much as you like (I mucked around in a single player mission I made) I’ve been so accustomed to using the aru I usually just speed brake to get under 800 from the get go. I figure the angles are better than the speed in a jet that accelerates so well.

I have def. noticed it's a bit nastier at the stall, at one loop like you mentioned, i fully snapped to the other side of my turn. I don't touch the ARU because i ripped the wings too many times, but i will try it again. and also your trim trick. I have felt the changes, but maybe it hasn't affected my gameplay as much because i am not flying at the edge of a stall, if i get any buffet or pull too hard i immediately back off. but these are good tips thanks!

The issue with the MiG-19 is that its wings were so unbelievably large, and at the time its airfoil design was quite outdated. While flying, any small pull will boost up CAoA figures to the triple digits, and you'll stall within seconds. The best time for this to happen is below 500km/h, where you can somewhat control it. Any fast and you're more than likely going to flip it over and accidently overcorrect in some sort of way, which is what I usually tend to do.

I started flying the 19 again but I’ve noticed when I go into the Special options , I check the disable cockpit camera so I can see better , but when I go online and select the 19 , the camera is still there …is there a new bug out there ?

I have both and I like the 19 more. It's more capable. The MIG 15 is much closer to the Sabre. The Sabre is a lot of fun too, but if you're planning on fighting anything but Mig 15s, you're going to be at a big disadvantage.

Excellent video. Well Done. Now create a flight manual, sign your name to it, publish it online (PDF), and become a published DCS author. I created a flight manual in the early days of IL-2 for the FW-190A8. I published it on the many IL-2 forums and became the expert for the 190. I can send it to you to use as a template, if you like. This will make you the MIG-19 Expert. You will have your 15,000 minutes of fame. 😁 The FW-190 was the most difficult/challenging plane to fly in IL-2 at the time. Guys were turning and burning with it and, ALWAYS got shot down. It got to the point few people were flying it except for me and I was slaughtering Yaks and Mustangs and well... every plane. I began coaching people and soon the skies of IL-2 were full of FW-190A8s BOOMING AND ZOOMING absolutely wrecking everything in sight. They also knew when to disengage and extend and return to the fight with ENERGY. It was a blast! Make the MIG-19 Flight Manual your Christmas Project, set to be released 1st Quarter 2023. The manual will be free, of course. This will be very good for your channel and once finished, you can create the next one, the F-5 Flight Manual, etc. etc. etc... I became a better 190 pilot writing the manual.

Disagree. First of all swiching ARU to maual is hardly a discovery. Secondly: - ARU - Auto - "I switched ARU ON" - ARU - Manual - "I switched ARU OFF" you seem to use it in opposite way. New ARU is just what we needed. By old one pilot had to move stick to its limits everytime. After flying 6 months one feel like it's a real labour work. Also turning off ARU is stupid. Why? It adjust sensibility so, that the same stick movement always causes the same "G". So stall place is always in the same place - in almost whole range of speed. Turning aru off makes losing wing by high speed much easier. Also it's not, that your stick movement are the smoothest one (see 2:10 also 3:06). Try to be more gentle now with new MiG-19. By "jerking" the stick, you're causing stall sooner than it shall be. Nice shooting.
