Before considering buying a home check first to see if the land comes with it. Many older homes passed down through the families do not own the land just the house. We recently tried to buy a house on a nice piece of land and when we went to the lawyers to draw up the paper work, we found out the person trying to sell us the property only owned the house not the land. Years ago it was common for people to just pick a piece of land and just build on it. Squatters used to be a big thing here. The woman who was trying to sell us the property never told us that her father had built a house on it before and the family was in court trying to argue who owned the property. The woman only owned the house she built on it herself not the land.

If your neighbors have chickens/roosters you have rats and lots of them. So best bet is an HOA that doesn’t allow chicken/roosters or moving to the mountains because even those there will be farm rats there will be less than in a community (urbanization) with chickens in them. Lived there and hated living next to ppl with chickens because I couldn’t even let my pup out at night because of all the rats. Leave NOTHING out because of sugar ants but screens will keep any other bits out and depending where you live have a machete for the “cienpies” they sting pretty hard and some can kill a small dog. I used to put my pets food in the fridge because of the sugar ants. But I’ve rented a 1b1b apt water and elect included for $350 and a 5 b for $550. Just avoid living near certain areas because reggieton at 2am full volume from a drive by or those crappy motorcycle bikes loud at 2am SUCK. I always lived near more elderly people because they were quiet and just super lovely and great to have coffee with in the mornings there was always a great sense of community with them.

Puetro rico doesn't have a apply for health insurance online based on incomes like the states. You send in your tax papers and health plans come up. Found out puetro rico all must pay full premuin no matter your income bracket. Don't forget that. But it costs less here. But my home went through Maria and quakes. Without coverage since u can't get it where I live. Who know some towns aren't insurable. Humucao isn't one of them. But still here. As I bought my home before Maria. But recommended don't buy a wood house. Buy concrete buy pvc furniture not partial board. Floods are common here. Here you need flood tolerate furniture. Couches made of pvc with removable cushions. At moment is no night life. They won't end cuwfews. So if one moves now plan on doing nothing . Me throught get same income. It will be like half. Had to change my lifestyle. Learn live on less . If I bought all the insurance it would cost 600 a month. You won't have same things as states here on less.

Just stumble on this video. Had to see it as I am a former islander. I still have family living there. What you said about Drs and waiting to see one is 100% true. My family has to get up early morning to go to the Dr's office by 3:30 to 4:00 am just to be in line. They tell me that by the time they arrive at the Dr's office there is already a line form! Do you believe that? They are usually finish by 3:00 pm. I don't think they believe in apts. I used to live in PR back in the mid '90's. I remember that on my days off I would spend a whole day just to do one errand due to the LINES! I don't know I could live in PR because of those lines! As far as Drs goes, my understandings is that most have left the island. I live in TX and most of my Drs are from the Island. There is a lot of PRicans in the medical field that move to TX because of opportunities. Same with cops. I hope something would change over there. The island needs Drs and cops. I would like to move back over there. Will see.
