The locomotive shown in this video is WAP-5. It is not a DC locomotive. Traction motors of WAP-5 are 3 phase induction motors. In 3 phase locomotive Potential Transformer and ET1 (surge arrester) is directly connected with the roof bar before VCB. And ET2 is connected after VCB. In old DC locomotives, PT is connected after VCB. In that case, OHE voltage can't be seen without closing the VCB. That's why this problem is rectified in the new design.

Correction.......PT(potential Transformer) is an instrument Transformer i.e., it is used for measuring voltage....WAP 7 is run by 3-ph induction motor not by DC.... However EMUs and trains before WAP 5 were run by DC series motor.

Wap5 locomotive doesn't run DC series motor it's run on 3 phase squirrel cage induction motor

Dear It is not necessary that PT used only as instrument transformer, it is used at High Voltage as well as Low voltage level, secondly it does not measure voltage, it only step down HV to LV ( in all AC Locomotives it step down to 110Volts) which used in measurement & protective equipments.

Never lifted both panto graphs at a time ,one front panto is lifted when the unit is ready to go. And may be used as spare pantograph.

not everywhere is the Voltage 25kV in Switzerland Germany and Austria its 15kV and they are probably AC locomotives because they have 16 2/3 Hz
