Jones River in Kingston, MA was named after the Captain of the Mayflower, Christopher Jones. The pilgrims explored the Jones River and learned from the natives how to take advantage of the plentiful fish. Through colonial times the river was used for fishing, pasture land, water supplies, and to power small mills and forges. With the industrial age came larger dams - this time made of concrete. People lost their connection with the river as they turned their energies towards industry and away from farming and fishing. Now those industries are gone, but their legacy remains in the form of relic dams that sever the flowing life of the river. In 2011 JRWA (with a LOT of help) removed the Wapping Road dam from the Jones River. In 2013 our underwater video cameras documented the first river herring passing the site in about 100 years! Un-Dam-It!

Thanks for the effort, but this format of having horrible intrusive music instead of educational narration appears rather weak. The project is fantastic and congratulations on your tenacity and success! Best of luck!

May I ask where you're seeing this video? It was made almost a decade ago and no one who worked on it still works for our organization but we get continuous feedback on it to this day. Just not sure where people are getting linked to it from.

Man those eels were determined as hell to get upstream! That's handy, no re-bar. 😁 Thanks for the video.

A dam doesn't become a wall in the river a dam IS a wall in the river.

awww come on. don't be so, so, unenlightened!!!! Those creepy crawly things were juvenile eels called elvers. read up on them. they have a fascinating life cycle. (and they are good eating)

i do not see much success with the eels. the underwater camera seemed too show the river still running too fast for them. and the camera only showed 1 that is not a good success story in the grand scheme of things.

typically it is small eel going up and big eels going down... Now (2022) a fish inventory will show how well eel do and if herring ended up in that lake.

Small eels were not forced to go through the photo trap, so were not photographed.
