War Boy by Michael Foreman

War Boy is from the picture book by Michael Foreman who also wrote War Game. War Boy recounts memories of the author’s own childhood, living near the naval base of Lowestoft in Suffolk during World War II. Surrounded by the continual ebb of military men being posted to the Front, the young boy and his friends see their heroes come and go. The bombs, wailing sirens, tanks and processions shape his playtime and fuel the imaginations of him and his friends. Only when some of his heroes fail to return does reality cast its shadow on his childhood.
