I was watching a B17 flight training video and noticed that it had a tailwheel locking lever that enabled the tailwheel lock for takeoff and then as the B17 moved and the tailwheel moved to center the lock engaged and there was a wheel lock confirmation indicator light on the instrument panel. Thought the locking indicator light would be good for your Corsair too.
@Dynodon64
@Dynodon64 13 күн бұрын
That was always my plan to be able to lock it, even before it went off field. The real Corsairs had the same locking tail wheel too.
@supernovaVII
@supernovaVII 13 күн бұрын
@@Dynodon64 Yes, I've followed your plans for the wheel lock, but on the B17 the locking lever is moved to lock position and indicator light illuminates when the wheel locking mechanism can actually lock the wheel, and the lock cannot happen until the movement of the aircraft positions the wheel in a position that it can lock. The important function is knowing that the wheel is actually locked.

Thanks, Don. Coming along nicely! Slow for us, but not for you LOL Keep it up and I will be looking forward to more progress. Damn SNOW anyway, here in Iowa we have been lucky so far. Last year at this time we were dealing with around 28" of the wonderful white stuff. Take care!

Glad your losing weight. My son has a 1/6 scale RC corsair and he has to dump flaps to keep it from ground looping. His you tube chn is hecht speed he has several vids of it. The first few flights it ground looped with full flap. He has a 4 cly 222cc engine with a scale 32 inch prop. Ck it out.

G'day Don, Yay Team ! I particularly enjoyed the Bilaterally-oppositional Helically-split Spirally Baffled Exhaust System...; I dunno how it will go, hopefully the Typmannic-Percussion amplification-effect will be damped by the welding fixture joining the Hollow Spiral-Baffle into the Muffler-Can (?) Are you going to ventilate the Cross-tube at the centre of the Spiral Doughnut ? I;m thinking that a couple or 4 Holes of say 3/16" in at, the centre - maybe under the bifurcated-flow shortly after splitting the Stream..., and the same number of Holes out at the ends - ideally 180° around the Circle from the inlet Drillings - and 1/4" in diameter... So that the high-pressure Gas blows into the central Pipe, expands and flows out at each end thriugh the bigger Holes - close to the Exhaust-Pipes vented to the atmosphere, so the pressure there is less than at the centre & thus a bit of Exhaust Gas is being "processed" by that Volume in the Core of the unit...? It can't hurt, and might help ; so it might be worth considering giving it a try ? Such is life, Have a good one... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !
@Dynodon64
@Dynodon64 13 күн бұрын
Yes I will add the holes. I like your idea of making them larger as they move towards the outlet ends. Thanks.
@WarblesOnALot
@WarblesOnALot 12 күн бұрын
@Dynodon64 No worries ! I think the Holes should be sized to encourage the Gas to want to go through ; otherwise that volume of space would be needed for the structural Geometry - but wouldn't be "processing" the hot glasses. I enjoy thinking about, and imagining Airflow, in the Wind-Tunnel of the Mind's Eye (!). Keep on keepin' on. Stay safe, ;-p Ciao !

Regarding Bell Cranks for the throttle; you may check to see what is commercially available. So, with the reduction of nose weight, how much will it affect CG?

Don - I really hope I'm wrong but that muffler idea looks like a high-loss flow path (high backpressure). Momentum is lost when the flow is forced to turn. I hope it doesn't affect scavenging. Are straight (or gently-curved) headers with straight-through mufflers totally out of the question? Thanks for the update!
@Dynodon64
@Dynodon64 12 күн бұрын
Flow will be reduced if you try to turn it at an angle like 90 degrees. This is not turning it. It is traveling in a straight but spiraling direction like a tornado. Straight pipe with inline mufflers is too long.

Looking good Don… I will be curious how far aft the CG moves with the weight reduction in the engine compartment… I’m sure the things you are adding will compensate somewhat but not sure it will be enough without a little lead wt in the nose somewhere??? Of course I don’t know where the CG fell before, so it might not be a big deal….. Just curious when you get everything built and installed what the weight difference will be between what you remove and what you replaced it with… But then again, the new replacement parts you are installing seems like it will be mounted farther forward than what you removed???? Will be interesting to know when you get it all done and do your new weight and balance… Keep up the good work…. I patiently await your next videos….
@Dynodon64
@Dynodon64 9 күн бұрын
W&B was right where it needed to be. If I lose too much weight up front, I will need to move some weight forward to keep it from being tail heavy. I will re do the W&B when done.

The corsair an bear cat are my favorite two ww2 birds i fly giant scale rc ww2 birds i have a 120" blown up from a 93" ziroli corsair flys awsome yours look awsome in the air i was watching your first test flight wow it looked just like a real corsair on take off it looked a little funny with the left rudder but engine rotates counter clock wise an thats going to cause opposite torque. Its sad when i saw the nose over but wood an foam isnt as hard to repair than the aluminum frame as on the real corsair.an the up grades your doing is awsome you want to fly it an not spend 80% on repairs.

All that work in that engine when you could spent money in a tried and true, fuel injected aircraft engine. I said over a year ago. Put a verner radial in it. Why build such an iconic warbird to only out a flat 4 cylinder in it. This is just my opinion, but that engine choice has taken away most of airplanes nostalgic look and sound.

Those engines are all out of my price range. Plus, they cost more than the aircraft is worth.
