(I was a tiny, 8 y.o girl😂) I felt tiny, which is what granted me the name "Sluthe the goddess petite" 😅 (She had a badass backstory too) Anyway, they made me their leader, they asked me before we went into battle what our plan for attack was. This was when I was getting into watching Vikings so.... When the other side yelled charge, I got to shout "Hold............ SHEILD WALL!" And everyone put their shields up, and it. WAS. AWESOME! To sum it up, we won. And I still larp to this day. (Tho, now the name is Laylith the Blood Jotuun, but still😅)

problem is you gonna get some nerd who pretends you didn't hit them "nah man i had force field on! didn't count!!!"
@windspast9 жыл бұрын
+Phil Moufarrege That's where you are wrong. LARP is a honor base system much like air softing. It encourages chivalry and taking hits like an adult. Are there people who come with those attitudes? Sure, but they don't last long. if I hit someone, and they don't take the hit, I first give them the benefit of a doubt. Maybe they didn't feel it. We are all wearing armor. With adrenaline, it's easy to not feel shots. So I hit them again. If I can hit them once, then I can hit them twice. If they still don't acknowledge my shots, then I hit them harder and harder until they do. Others will do the same. But we will never accuse someone and say "I hit you, you're cheating." That's not what the game is about. They will eventually acknowledge the hits themselves because it's silly not to.

Thrifikionor except the fact that trans people aren’t mentally ill. Science has proved that. Being trans isn’t a mental illness in science anymore. It’s something that’s happened biologically in pregnancy that affects the brain of the person. Not something that “just happens” like depression or PTSD. It’s 2018. Wake up. The only people who hate trans now are assholes and religious idiots.
@joeyv96886 жыл бұрын
Nebula you’re right. None of us would be “bitching” as you put it. However, I do say this to educate and not to belittle you or anyone else here, but only true marriage can be in the presence of God and with God. True marriage can ONLY be between a man and a woman, because God brought women and men together so they may fully join in their love. Not two men and not two women. Marriage is when a man, a woman, and the Lord our God all join and become one. The immorality and evil going on here is the furthest thing from marriage. I don’t want to sound mean or hateful. I’m only spending my time writing this, because I’m doing my part as a Christian. Keep this or flush it, but it’s up to you. The sin and evil doesn’t come from loving the same sex, but comes from the physical and lustful acts with the same sex. Love the sinner, but hate the sin, and remember that the Lord our God is forgiving and desires to forgive us all for our sins. Wouldn’t you desire to forgive your children for their wrongs? For those of you who would like to trash this message, I did my part and kept you reading so I hope I got you guys thinking. Thank you!!
@spazzofspeed6 жыл бұрын
@@joeyv9688 Yeah, I'm not a christian and i have no sympathy for christians like you hiding behind your religion to punch down at marginalized groups, marriage can be a non-religious, socially motivated thing, and staying in your own little world about that is counter-productive. you ARE being hateful and bigoted, and being exactly the opposite of what jesus intended to bring upon the world. know your source material. +IchhabezuvielKZbingegucktO_o : Yes, but it doesn't deserve it here ;-) No, really, I can see a change in the NERD-factor here in europe: If you are LARPing with a high level of costume-design and acting attitude, mixed with some basic research of cultural/historical background of your clothing, LARPing is quite accepted... But mixing different genres might be creativ, but it really looks NERDish in 95% of all cases... Just like the one in the video at 0:45 with the stupid NVA-helmet and the piercings, the modern protective gloves... this one would be called NERD even here in europe...

Not sure about LARP, but in historical battle reenactment, we use wooden arrows with specialized rubber tips. They still hurt like a bitch if they hit anything unarmoured, but they don't do any real damage and fly like a true arrow. As for foam, they wouldn't fly properly... or at least not in a realistic manner... which could shatter immersion pretty damn quickly.

Fantastic. I want to be a part of it! The only thing that is confusing to me is with LARP, Star Trek cons, cos-play, etc, there are always people commenting in the interviews, saying "people see us as weird, but we're just normal people." or "I'm not one of the people that are completely over the top like some." Why is it necessary to say this? There is no reason to prove normalcy. I agree that many ordinary boring people make fun of creative people that are involved in these activities. My response to that is to say yes, in the eyes of boring average people who can't think of anything more interesting to do than follow a major sports team while drunk, and gossip about people that are slightly different than them, I am a weirdo, and I hope that differentiation remains strong throughout my life. I have no desire to fit in with that level of normalcy, and no desire to convince them that I am just normal like them. I do not mean that in an antagonistic way, but we have nothing to prove to them whatsoever. I'd rather say hell yes, I am very different from you. Now if you don't have anything interesting to say or suggest as an activity, please let me get back to hanging around the fun creative people who are LARPing, SCAing, StarTreking, cosplaying, et al.

Foam wouldn't really fly well, but I've seen battle reenactments where rubber-tips were used. They hurt like a bitch if you're unarmoured but they fly as straight and true as a real arrow would.
@healingpotionthatkillsyoui18447 жыл бұрын
Fcreveryoung Dagorhir and Belegarth use exactly that. Real arrows that are blunted and then have a large foam tip grafted on. They fly surprisingly well and don't hit all that hard. I have been hit in the face by arrows numerous times and have suffered no ill effects.
@cyqry7 жыл бұрын
Depends on the build, I suppose... as well as the poundage of the bow you're firing it from. Foamnhave gas trapped in them so they tend to much lighter and also can push inwards (on themselves) when colliding to transfer less kinetic energy... hence why they hurt less.

I don't have an answer for your question about latex weapons, but they're probably using the basic limb system, which goes as follows; If you get hit in your arm, you are unable to use that arm properly and must, for example, drop your weapon if you're holding one with that arm.

as a member of LARP, Dagerhir battle games more specifically, I will say that it is highly entertaining. no, their is no magic in dag, only your skill with a sword and tactics with a friend. the events are a great place to make friends and everyone are just so nice and kind. I encourage people to join and see what its all about.

Never saw such of these larp weapons. I just use "Real" Larp Weapons. So it means, Swords, Staff and so on. But this is kinda like "I take a Foam beater and kill someone"
@cyqry8 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons that reenacters tend to have little respect for LARPers; you get too many people who pick up a massive slab of foam, slap it around at the speed of light and call it "fighting". Its either the style of fighting or the weapon of choice that they get horrifically wrong.

+C4lipp0 being an american larper i can tell you first hand that the problem is that its very expensive to get quality costuming or weapons because you usually have to get them imported from elsewhere so in the case of darkon its beneficial to use the less expensive options
@kakaatsuri9 жыл бұрын
+C4lipp0 A lot of Larp in America doesn't like Latex weapons, and instead tends to use boffer weapons from boffer fighting as they are easier to make and purchase. Armor tends to conform to SCA standard and is much more expensive, so the scale for armor tends to be homemade- hobbyist- SCA

One thing i'd like to add to this is the "real HEMA fights". While HEMA is the closest thing we have to the real thing (as I understand), it still is not really going to do you much good in the modern real world..... just like the foam fighting. Also, a lot of people cannot afford it. If you go to SCA, then there is the problem with the fact that every fighter has armor is still inaccurate. They are all games in the end. None is better than the other. It is all personal preference. Play what you enjoy........ ( and have fun shit talking each other in good fun people who walk around with metal sticks XD)

So honestly I’d recommend asking them if you want it expanded on. What I explained is just what they told us. I’d add though that these guys seemed to enjoy the game for fun. I think some of the game’s thrill is the simulated representation of combat. Would you have fun playing a video game where you’re invincible? I’m sure some people fudge it and stay standing once in a while when they’re supposed to go down, but it seems that’d ruin the fun and people would start to notice.

The super foam weapons ruin it, the length of the weapons ruin it, the frantic attacks I'm seeing rather than actual tactical melee fighting ruins it. No stance, bad defense, overly aggressive lunges and charging. I also assume all that top heavy foam really messes with the balance of their weapons too. Maybe I'm just being picky, but I enjoy realism and this looks like people running around with nerf bats or something..
@avmrb429 жыл бұрын
+Here Kitty That`s because this is american larp. If you want something realistic and hardcore search for russian larp! Now if you wan't that in a fantasy setting, but doesen't care about the group of friends thing it's german drachen fest Drachenfest fest for you. If you are searching for something more serious and dense than that I would suggest nordic larp. It's all about the people in the group.
@nnmacameraman929 жыл бұрын
+Here Kitty You're assuming that everyone should be trained fighters right? But realistically, depending on your time period, not every fighter is going to be trained. For instance, my larp is post apocalyptic. End of the world, no one is going to be trained. You'd learn through old books on martial arts or people who passed it down through generations. It's unlikely that we'd have a ton of trained fighters. Same goes for this larp, but in a different time period. As for weapons well, we don't want to get our hands chopped off or mashed. If you want realism, you go out and find a group of people who want to pick up real swords (I'd offer wooden, but you want accuracy) and armour up and fight each other. You'll have lawsuits and other crap, but you'll have your realism. Now if you want to drop those ideals and come out to a game, I know this larp, mine or really any other larp would be happy to have you try it out. It's a lot of fun, even if it's not realistic, it's fun. That's ultimately what we're about, fun.
@ColdestLonely9 жыл бұрын
+Here Kitty There were a lot of things I thought before I actually came out and fought. As with any group, there are different skill levels and different people have different goals for what they put in vs. what they get out of a game. I would encourage you to come give it a shot - Plenty of people come out thinking they will "roll everyone" and quickly find out there is a unique skill that goes into foam fighting - as with any sport.

+Here Kitty - Most swords are constructed wit super light foams these days. The balance is probably close to an actual sword, but with 0 weight.

+Here Kitty The weapons they use are called 'Boffer' weapons. Everyone at my LARP uses Latex weapons that look super realistic. We always use tactics as running in get's you killed. Our battles take around 10 minutes to finish and are a hell of a lot of fun.

I feel like if I were to become interested in something like this I would work my way into a community, become trusted and then after several months or even years and then one day unsheathe a great sword from the foam and go on a wild killing rampage
@Noone-of-your-Business7 жыл бұрын
You _are_ "weird people". LARP is not just about smacking foam sticks at each other, it's about _role playing_ . Combat is only *one* of many aspects. Trust Americans to use the biggest sticks and to thrash about as hard as they can. In European LARP, players try to have sword fights that actually *look* good.
