Lithium is not a rare earth. It is not in short supply on earth although extracting and processing it is costly.

"Lithium in short supply on Earth" 1) wrong, completely wrong. There's plenty. There's just a short term mining/refining capacity shortage (but way more capacity than on the moon, and way cheaper to exploit) 2) Litium is just one battery chemistry. There are many others in the pipeline, like sodium. Also thermal batteries will become increasingly used for static energy storage.

When you have a nut on the show then at the very least fact check them. It is vastly cheaper to extract lithium from seawater than the Moon.

And just how could anything man can do affect the Moon enough to even change the tides by a mere millimeter? All of mankind does not have that power. Even if all the nuclear weapons, rockets, and explosives were used. Do the math, or don't post nonsense.

Again Prof Grayling pontificates on a subject of which he knows little. I'd like this to be discussed properly, by adults who know what they are saying and have made a proper study of the subject. Instead we have a Hesiltine look alike flaunting his ignorance.

There is nothing much on the moon that we need. The longest anyone has stayed on the moon so far is just a few days and at huge cost. It willl become cheaper but not that cheap. That means that there will be no wars over the moon ever.

-Lithium on the Moon? The Moon is depleted in lithium and there are no processes expected that would lead to the formation of ores. Rare Earth metals exist but in too low a concentration to be extracted. There are no mineral resources on the Moon known so far that would be valuable enough to send them to Earth. Nothing to mine there except for in situ utilization.

I agree, at, at our current technological level, might be able to bring something back to power a lightbulb for a week, slight drawback it will cost billions, and need a vast amount of resources from this planet, this might be a debate in about 100 years though , if we make it, but joking apart in the future , we will have to look to space for resources , as ours disappear, and we require more energy, but we need a massive leap in technology, and as yiu say its decades away.
