If you look to the region history before Spain and France the, there was nothing called Republic of Western Sahara. The local villages gave their loyalty to Moroccan Sultans. So Morocco was the country responsible of their security until the independence of Algeria who wants more land and more power through an access to Atlantic ocean... Polisario is a simple invention of Algeria

Sorry to tell you but this is a biased video. As a Spaniard I can affirm to you that our government past policy was to divide Morocco because we used to think it is an enemy. Our government sadly worked with Algeria and Qaddafi to do this. Now we know that the Moroccans are our allies and refuse the division of their land. We have separatist problems too and now we understand the danger. Also Europe does not want a weak state with less than 500,000 people only hundred kilometers from its borders. Read about the isis problems in the Sahel and Mali (who I think used to be part of the old Moroccan Empire). World security is more important. Thank you very much.

You are commiting the mistake of assuming the history started from 1975. That's simply not true. The region was over a 1000 year under the Moroccan flag. Most Moroccan dynastiees started from there. While the Sahrawy do have different cultural aspects then say someone from Casablanca, that same can be said about all Moroccan regions. There are at least 5 different languages in Morocco. That said these cultures have all intermingled and have formed in a big melting pot over the centuries. Including the Sahrawies who live all over Morocco and the other Moroccans who live all over the Sahara. Also most of the Sahrawi where bedouines when this happened. You could find them from Mauritania to Libya, From Chad to Mali. Morocco already secceded huge swaps of land in the form of Mauritania to these Sahrawis. And why wouldn't the Sahrawi in Algeria and Libya get their own country aswell. Don't they have the right to self determination? At least Moroccans can claim the Sahara because most of it cities where built by Moroccan monarchs and let the Sahrawis trade and graze their stocks. While most of Algeria's Sahara wasn't even Algeria before the colonial rule. It was Moroccan and taken away by France after Morocco regained its independence and gifted to Algeria because it stayed a province of France.

Two things: 1 - You never go over the historical facts pre-colonization and how Moroccan sphere of interest, influence and power extended all the way south to Senegal. 2- Your allegation regarding the berm crossing the Mauritanian border is flawed. as a matter of fact Google earth boundaries are not usually accurate, and is not an accurate survey. There are multiple cases but I will show you in this specific case what I mean: The border checkpoint of Mauritania is in the Moroccan side. 21.3366139;-16.9503929 I would appreciate it if you included a correction in your video, and recommend that you spend more time going through the historical facts of Morocco pre 1900's. Edited: On Recognition: Vienna Convention on Consular Relations1963 - Articles 2, 4 and others may indicate the contrary, having in mind the Purposes and Principles of the Charter of the United Nations concerning the sovereign equality of States. See Article 4 #1 "... in the territory of the receiving state... " it is in fact a recognition! Article 4 1. A consular post may be established in the territory of the receiving State only with that State’s consent.

Your analysis is very shalow to be honest and i will try to explain why as much as i can. First you didnt go into why Morocco had laid claim to that land which you brushed off as plain colonisation. That is very innacurate as it was Morocco who put in the UN the file of the decolonization of the sahara. The UN also recognized that Morocco hold ties to that Land but they judged as non conclusive to justify control of that said land. Which is their opinion at the end of the day and is non-binding. You did not also delve into the details of where the polisario front came from and what is its relationship to Morocco. The leaders of the Polisario were students in Morocco and they were trained by the liberation army to pressure spain to leave that land. The conflict was political between the central regime and the liberation army in the way to proceed to the recovery of that land. The central regime wanted to go the diplomatic way while the liberation army wanted to get into conflict with spain. Anyway this subject is way more complicated than people think and if one goes into deep research they will treat moroccos position more fairly which not many do.

No other nation currently recognizes Morocco's historic claims on Western Sahara as legitimate-the Green March was basically a neo-colonial land grab by the Moroccan government. The reason Morocco wanted Spanish Sahara decolonized was self-interest (just as self-interest motivates Algeria in hosting the SADR in Tindouf). People interested in a deep dive into the Polisario Front can read several sources in the video description. This video is only a brief overview to a contentious subject. Thanks for the comment.

Most western countries don't (except the US), but most like the status quo and are against a new instable socialist/communits country in the form of SADR on the south of its borders. This what we call a propaganda. Why you didn’t mention The Ifni war (1957-1958) or what is known by Spain as the Forgotten war, the same term that is used now by the Polisario or what they use to be Tropas Nomadas at that time. Moroccan army and Sahrawi tribes liberated the northern part of the Sahara (Cap Juby and Ifni) Hundreds of thousands of Sahrawis moved north escaping the war and the massacre of Spanish, French and Tropas Nomadas army. Most of them lives there now, And some went back on Green March or after. They’re not a settlers and they’re eligible to vote.
@024generation4 жыл бұрын
you use the term sahrawi people. but sahrawi people are all people who live in the desert. the separatists you refer to are called polisario. to stick to the facts. Morocco has held a green march when Spain occupied the Sahara with 350 thousand Moroccans. then Spain withdrew from the country. Morocco was the only country to have claimed the sahara. that's a fact. after the sahara was liberated from the spanish occupier then came from algeria seperatists supported by algeria and kadafi at the time to take part from morocco. let that be clear. and historically the empire of morocco reaches further than the current morocco. it went deep into Algeria, Mauritania and Mali.
@MrJonLott4 жыл бұрын
The Polisario Front is the liberation front of the Sahrawi people, which, as you say, are inhabitants of the desert. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahrawi_people) About half the Sahrawis live in Western Sahara or as refugees elsewhere; they are the original stakeholders of the region, long trapped between Morocco and Algeria's interests. Almost every nation, as well as international organizations, doesn't recognize Morocco's historical/cultural claims on the territory. If the current government of Morocco can claim Western Sahara as part of Greater Morocco, then why doesn't Morocco also claim parts of Algeria, Mauritania, and Mali?

Do not forget that the history is on the side of Morocco .That territory was before the occupation by Spain controlled by the Morocco. and never by any other entity. I think most of them view this as a petty quibble among third world people and can't imagine that there are some significant geopolitics at play. We saw how Westerners treated communists when they found themselves at the receiving end of foreign powers trying to sow dissent in their society. Look at what the West did to third world countries in order to keep the USSR at bay, Viet Nam, Latin America. The king of Morocco is desperate for a war with Algeria, for any reason, With the tourism resources in Morocco declining, the republican democrats of his country will cease the opportunity and try to bring his oppressive dictatorship down. We have seen this behaviour with Egypt at the time of the dictator Hosni Mubarak, who also tried desperately to wage a war against Algeria, indeed a such war will allow him to justify and perpetuate his rule over Egypt, and will deviate the focus of his people from their quest for liberation, toward an nonexistent, fabricated enemy, Algeria. Usu sly throughout history, dictators will have agreements between them to wage fake wars in case there is an uprise of the population, but the ruler of Egypt then did not have such a deal with a neighboring country, nor does the king of Morocco today. Algeria has responded to Mubarak with silence, and will respond to morocco the same. That is, Algeria is a republic, ruled by the people, and the opinions of the people is expressed in the streets. Not social media or political discourse. Research the multiple people uprise in Algeria, including the latest Hiram to see for yourself. Thank you.
