3:47:21 the Free People's had a chance to win by a miltary victory. Use an elven Ring to take Moria and Dol Guldur. The Shadow only had a Muster left and since those places were strongholds they could have only just attacked Moria but not take it.

Late comment, but you misplayed the whole reduce coruption thing. Gandalf the White comes into play, even if the Gandalf the Gray is eliminated. So you could just eliminate Gandalf to reduce corruption, and then bring him back as gandalf the white. Legolas was gone for nothing. Poor Legolas. You shall be remembered.

not all hunt tiles are returned to the cup on the mordor track, only eye tiles that were drawn before and any tiles from played action cards, i.e. if a hunt was succesful and you draw a 3 tile it doesnt return later to the cup once the fellowship goes on the mordor track

You ruined my Friday night and cost me hundreds of dollars in lost wages. I couldn’t stop watching this even though I’ve never played the game. I’ve watched a bunch of play throughs and own the game. I just bought the collectors edition of Battle of the Five Armies. Please play this game again! It was really fun to watch.

Nice play. Be good to see you do more. WOW though the Free People player unfortunately missed an easy military victory at 3:47:40. They had elven units next to Moria, and north units next to Dul Guldur. Both were at war. They had 1 die left and 3 rings. Using a ring to move both armies into the empty Sauron strongholds would have been the 4 points for the victory. The Shadow player couldnt have done anything about it as they only had 1 die left, so even attacking Moria back with the adjacent army would have just started a siege and the round would have ended there! You did spot this though from comment in the stream chat.. I spotted some rule issues for you on top of what others have said to help for future games... 1) At 1:23:00 the Shadow player recruited 2 Nazgul directly into armies on the board that weren't in strongholds. They must be recruited into Sauron strongholds. You would have had to move them after to the armies. The same happened around 1:40:00. 2) At 1:26:00 the Free People player did not activate Gondor when Strider became Aragon. This didn't really matter though as the very next Shadow action was to attack Gondor and activate them anyway. 3) At 2:00:56 the Shadow player re-rolled and got a 4, and assumed it was a hit because of the combat card played. However that combat card only added +1 to the "combat roll". It did not count for the "leader roll". This hit should not have been applied. 4) At 2:26:15 you as others have said, you did incorrectly move the fellowship from the previous 3 hunt tile. 5) At 3:07:13 the Shadow player had to discard one character card and one army card to remove the "A Power Too Great" card in play. This might not have been a mistake, but it caught me out too so thought id say. But the "army" card is specific to a card from the "Strategy" deck that has an army symbol in it. The Strategy deck has cards with muster symbols as well as army symbols. Muster cards from the strategy deck would not have been legal here.

You should't stop playing as soon as someone hits the military victory goal. You only check for military victory in step 6 check for victory of a turn. So you should have kept playing as you both still had a lot of action dice to spend (step 5). Mel could have sneaked back to Lorien to take away 2 Vp. When you take 12 damage or are on the end of the mordor track you win instantly

I love this game! I bought it like 4 months ago, and have played it like 15 times. I love how everything is soo well balanced, but everything you do still has a large impact on the game. And the cards are great, they are very thimatic, and are ALL useful in some way.

You forgot a rule - If the Free Peoples/Sauron player conducts their entire round in the voice of Gandalf/Saruman they can claim a single re-roll the next turn.

3:56:56 I feel so bad for the free people's but still learning the game. I think after that mess with forgetting how two armies can be moved using an army result, the best bet would have been to attack Moria so that when Rob attacked from N. Dunland and daylight was played if she still surived she could have retreated into Dimrill Dale and retake Lorien. Giving her time to dunk the ring.

Considering that the majority of the stream is not actual game play, but discussing rules and explaining actions, this game didn't take all that long to play--just a couple or three hours at most. I wonder, as someone new to WotR, whether that is typical. Great video, you two. It is very helpful viewing.

I think the rule on downgrading elites (being able to replace with a free people’s casualty makes sense to me). You are not pulling from reinforcements. Think of this as an elite unit that was wounded and is now an average (regular) unit. It’s not like an elite died and a regular reinforcement came running into battle to take his/her place. So taking a regular from casualty to replace the elite unit makes complete sense. You would not want to more rapidly deplete your reinforcements by pulling from those every time you downgrade an elite.

1:29:11 one of the Nazgul was placed illegal into that Army (if Nazgul are recruited they need to be put in a shadow fortress) so Rob should have had 2 rerolls instead of 3 and maybe the six. And that Army keeps moving. Just sayin' 😉

No, I don't think she could have retreated to a friendly region before the battle. You are only able to retreat to adjacent regions at the end of each combat round (rulebook p. 29). Retreating into a Stronghold is different, however, and can only be done at the start of each combat round (before combat cards, rolls, etc.)

technically military victory doesn't check until the end of the turn. So if Mel would be able to retake 1 point maybe 2 points by taking Lorien and taking 2 more points.

They move one space on the track, then you do the hunt roll. They always move, but with different effects and consequences.

Unless they are on the Mordor track where they could be stopped in their tracks by a revealed hunt tile (you alway reveal a tile on the Mordor track - no rolling of sixes necessary).

57:26 Actually that move is illegal for two reasons: 1. She must hide the fellowship before it can be moved and 2. Even the first die she places there gives +1 to the hunting roll (unless Lords of Middle Earth-Strider councils the fellowship)

At 57:27 she is hidden so she didn't have to hide. The fellowship counter is ring side up. And no the first time the fellowship moves a turn the hunt roll succeeds only on a 6. From page 41 of the rules under Modifiers to the Hunt Roll: If the Fellowship has moved more than once per turn, the Hunt becomes easier. For every Action die that the FP player has placed in the Hunt Box (a FPP action die is placed here AFTER every movement of the fellowship...), the Shadow player adds +1 to each hunt roll die result.

2:27:40 Aragorn does not die. Companions are basically immortal, like Nazguls, can be only killed or sacrified using card effects (or decreasing hunt level while in fellowship). Only leaders die together with whole army, as they cannot exist alone on a region.

Sorry, I don't think this is true. Aragorn was attached to the besieged army in the battle, so was properly eliminated: Rulebook Page 30: Elimination of Leaders and Characters If all the Army units involved in a battle are eliminated, then all Leaders (including Characters) that were part of that Army are also immediately removed from play. The rules define Characters as 'Minions and Companions'

You started wrong with the hunt allocation. At the first round you don’t allocate any eye die as you only allocate them in this phase ONLY IF THE FREE PEOPLE PLAYED AT LEAST ONE DIE IN THE PREVIOUS ROUND. As it is the first round, obviously you don’t allocate an eye die

As far as I understand the rules, the shadow players is free to allocate up to 7 hunt die in phase 3, but he doesn't have to if there weren't a die of the Free People. Or am I misunderstanding you?

The Free People side actually has priority for a ring victory. If the ringbearers reach the crack of doom space they win immediately even if they are at 12 corruption. Just like the sauron player has priority during a military victory. Sauron can achieve 10 vp and win even if the fellowship gets 6 vp. EDIT: This was a misread of the rule. Sauron has priority at all times if the corruption ever reaches 12 even if the ringbearers are on the crack of doom space.

nope, in chapter 10 of the rulebook it says, that the ring is destroyed if the ringbearers are at the crack of doom step and have fewer than 12 corruption points. It also says that the shadow wins if the ring bearers ever have 12 corruption. Therefore even if the ring bearers are at the crack of doom, if they have 12 corruption, they don't destroy the ring and the shadow wins the game
