Good Day Taff! If you strafe a ship by approaching its broadside every gun can fire at you, not to mention every gun in the fleet. What I am about to say sounds crazy - in the real world- but try approaching a ship from either bow to stern or vice versa depending on the situation. For your single fighter stern to bow was best. Now the crazy part ... SLOW your plane down when you get to within 3K feet. Slow as you can go. This gives the pilot time to adjust his gun site and more time on target which means more bullets in the ship. Your plane will probably get shot down so why not try to get the best results for your effort. 1 plane for exploding a cargo ship..... a great trade. Love you videos.

Regardless of how things might work in the real world, in this game, most air attacks get better results when attacking from the side at about 90 degrees. However, strafing may be the exception. I don't use strafing very often, because you will lose a lot of planes, but a lengthwise attack may work well. But, I disagree with the advice to slow down. In this game, you should *never* change the airspeed selected by the game. That always results in fewer hits. It should work in reality, but this game isn't reality.

@@devrossik It works for me, and "It's PAAT" "Darth Vegan" "Crazy Jester" and a few others. Try it a couple of times.

@@vf-114jock2 I did try it in four different attacks, and it appears you have something there. I did get more hits, but I also lost more planes, and strafing resulted in no sinkings (those USN planes just didn't have enough firepower). I think I will continue to avoid strafing attacks when playing vanilla, although it can be devastating with the planes featured in the TTE mod.

@@devrossik Say it with rockets they are fantastic! To sink takes a 20 30 or 37 mm. Some got it some don't P-38s got it. Thanks for trying! 😃

@@devrossik Personally I do strafing attacks when its gotten to the point where I can just toy with them (I got complete naval supremacy, they've ran out of heavy cruisers and light cruisers to order, and I got all my carriers just launching plane after plane)

I'm glad I found your channel. I love the war on the sea series you have. Can't wait for more of your IJN campaign. This game is indeed hard. One bit of advice with subs, change depth randomly. It seems to confuse the escorts.

Far from being an expert, I have found that the B 17's will get more hits if you use the line ahead formation. Of course, it really helps to line up on the ships before bombs away aft to fore or fore to aft for maximum damage. Same with the Avengers, if you control the torpedo release and the aircraft in the formation, you'll probably get more hits as well. Needless to say, loses will be much higher as the enemy has a straight line to shoot at the targets...

I would invest in a solid surface fleet for defense around Santa Cruz. Something with the same make up like the fleets you’ve been encountering. 2 CA, 2 CL, 2 DD. With that being protected by your island air cover you should be able to build up your base.

if you keep a plane or two circling after bobing or torpedo attack, you can loiter and sometimes the damaged ships will sink, as they can't automatically repair like they do if you end the engagement. :D

And it´s another good idea, to pull up your planes after a strafing run. Never fly straight at the same height.

Depth charge explode depth is automatically determined based on the depth of the target. The sliders allow you to set the pattern, namely; a) the number of repeats to drop b) the time in seconds between each repeat The explode depth is determined automatically at the moment they are launched.

Thanks for the heads up! I thought that the second timer was for the depth charge explosion depth, goes off so many seconds after being released. Sometimes you don't have a depth, but you know they are there.

I would also like to suggest that you pick a single target and destroy it moving to the next target after first is gone. You got heavy/critical damage that was repaired, if a concentrated attack on one of those ships succeeded, it would most likely have sunk.

For fleet composition my advice would be to use some CAs like 2-3, 1 or 2 CLs and 1 DD or an Atlanta against Subs. BBs are great but I think atm too expansive and CVs, well they are powerful but in my opinion it is too early in the campaign. Also I highly recommend cutting off the Japanese supply Convoys before they reach Guadalcanal or it will be more and more difficult to conquer the island. As a tip for battles you really need to win: Choose the strongest ship in your fleet and aim every salvo manually. Just use the narrow pattern, zoom in on the minimap and give it a try. After a bit of training you are able to hit with almost every salvo and annihilate the opposing forces.

For ASW I usually have three destroyers hunting, and after dodging one slows down and it’s only job is to listen, rotate that role to fit with who has more or has used all depth charges, and the other two hunt the sub, and the sub surfaced due to its damage

Is it best with sub attacks to just aim for the cargo ships? Those presumably have less ability to dodge or accelerate out of trouble.

From COMPACFLT, OFFICE OF NAVAL INTELLIGENCE (ONI) To ADM TAFFINEX, SOWESPACOPS Sir, IJN assets are currently in far greater superiority; establishment of tactics within current framework of supply support, regional tactics, and conservation of Allied forces while gaining maximum attrition of IJN naval and land assets is vital. As you are well aware, the current theater of operations is deemed 'of secondary concern', deferring to the ETO (European Theater of Operations). This situation requires what would best be called 'guerrilla' and small unit tactics until superiority or near parity in force engagements with the enemy. Several recommendations are as follows: 1) Utilization of submarines, operating in pairs. Ideally, as IJN formations tend to be one or two lines, firing spreads of torpedoes from the enemy's port and starboard positions with fairly wide spreads can offer maximum damage and confusion to enemy formations, as somewhat evidenced in the preceding film. 2) Unsinkable aircraft carriers. Islands at the outliers of the main objectives can be captured and local air superiority can be established to support area denial, harassment of enemy supply lines, and interdiction of IJN offensive forces. Such islands are useful for supply staging closer to objectives as well, thereby allowing actions such as night time resupply to ground forces where air cover would otherwise not be available. 3) Destroyers are fast, cheap, and versatile- exactly why the IJN is using them. ASW (anti-submarine warfare), rapid resupply, and decent anti-aircraft capabilities are all destroyer specialties. 4) "HIT 'EM WHERE THEY AIN'T". Rather than a long slow slog, rolling across in a sweep from island to island, it is strongly recommended to establish a tactic of "ISLAND HOPPING", bypassing IJN controlled areas for those that have little to no enemy garrison. This will enable you to press attacks on enemy supply lines and give you insight into their intentions. 5) Lastly, COMSUBPAC has instructed me to express his strong desire to see submarines watching every single entrance to 'The Slot', as this is a hotbed of IJN activity and it is his belief that USN submarines are uniquely outfitted, particularly early on, to be forward enough to take the fight to the enemy in his own backyard and put the iron on the bottom of Ironbottom Sound. If you are operating ships in combat, and any of them are damaged, after the battle is over, hang around on the tactical map until that damage is repaired as far as it can be. If you leave battle at less than full repair, some of the damage may become permanent. You will automatically get some additional repairs after the battle ends, but don't rely on that. Wait it out until as much as possible is repaired. Use time compression to speed things up. Obviously, if you are forced to flee a losing fight, you can't wait for repairs.

Why not attack the escorts first, so planes don't have to fly through heavy AA fire to the heavy cruisers etc.

Very nice use of time and upload. I would prefer this as opposed to U-Boat videos... the devs just seem to not get it and with just about every single mission being practically the same it's gotten very boring. Why does every patrol have to include find lost sub, give food to x, find critical war technology? really there's that many lost submarines from our country they need better training etc. It's ludacris that they haven't added more interesting a d realistic missions or even just leave you alone on patrols and increases the enemy shipping there is to spot. it's either half the time you can't find anything or you get those stupid missions.
