you dont have to keep 20 archers at home to def 5 swords, also, you are playing asia, so as your units will be dying in front, you can instantly make units at home and def with them. Or in worst case, kill your own units in front, to make units for def, if he attacks you. But keeping iddle units home, when you have 40+ population...thats not good. You basically give him chance to stabilize and transition to archers.

You are sleeping on how good mamluks are, it can be an unstoppable force against east eu spam. rate of return on goats is also very significantly better than fowls.
