So the reason your TOW launcher automatically starts turning when you drive is because its an automatic safety built into the fire control system. Older TOWs with the wires couldn't fire if you were moving over 5 mph because the wires in theory could connect with itself and short the missile out and it would automatically abort fire and dump in the ground. With other reasons I'm not all sure I can say in a public forum

That's incorrect. The wires were insulated just fine and couldn't short out. What happened if you jostled the control module was that you could cut the wires. The cutting function was meant to clear the wires from the launcher after the missile hit a target. Unfortunately it was sensitive and could be engaged prematurely. TOW crewmen had to train so that they held steady on target despite the startling noise of the initial launch rocket meant to propel the missile far enough to engage the main rocket engine. I once tried firing a TOW practice round and even though I did my best not to flinch, I still ended up cutting the wires.

The M901 ITV (Improved TOW Vehicle) was the standard anti-tank system for U.S. Mechanized Infantry units. At the time it entered service, a Mechanized Infantry battalion used the M113 APC. These battalions had no other inherent anti-tank weapons, aside from the infantry's M47 Dragon (not impressive) and M72 LAW (also not impressive). So they had an anti-tank company equipped with M901s. The M901s served the same role as anti-tank guns did during WW2. This isn't to say infantry didn't have tank support. It became common for armored battalions and mech infantry battalions to exchange a company or two. Such mixed battalions were called Task Forces. This was intended to provide flexibility, since there are many missions requiring both tanks and infantry. Inside the Task Force, armored companies and infantry companies might exchange platoons. These mixed company units were called Teams. The M901 was not the first variant of the M113 to carry a TOW. But the earlier version just had a TOW launcher on a pintle mount. That left the gunner very exposed. Red Army doctrine called for armored assaults to be supported by artillery fire, so it was felt the TOW gunners would be unable to do their job when needed most. Mainly because they would be getting killed. The M901 was not intended to lead an advance. It was intentionally designed to be used hull-down, with the unmanned missile launcher being the only exposed part of the vehicle. Kept the gunner from getting killed. That's also the best use in-game.

When I was a combat support company XO in a tank battalion, our scout platoon had 3 M113s and 3 M901 ITVs. In the mech infantry battalions in our brigade, their scout platoons were just like ours, but the infantry company ITV sections (2 M901s) were consolidated with the anti-tank platoon (12/14(?) M901s) of the combat support company, providing the battalion commander with 18/20 M901s to mass on mounted avenues of approach or spread out as necessary. This was before the AT platoon was designated an AT company and a fourth rifle company was added. All M901s had an M60/M240 machine gun pintle mounted on the turret opposite the launcher mount.

Coordinating with teammates without microphones is fun too. I was once in a game where team coordination was really good, like a straight line all flanks covered/secured, meanwhile All German tanks were heading towards the middle. We managed to hold the straight line until the end of the game by using a lot of Smokescreens shells. Smokescreens are useful if you’ve managed to hold a flanking position.

"I have to time it"? Um, you know that the missiles are guided, right? They go where the crosshairs are pointed. The M901 was just coming into service when I was in the army. We called them Cherrypicker TOWs. The M113 chassis wasn't intended to be exposed to enemy direct fire weapons, which is why it popped up like that. The idea was to fire from defilade, such as the reverse slope of a hill or a prepared dug-out. An M113's armor was only meant to protect from small-arms fire that's rifle caliber or smaller, shell fragments or other debris thrown up by an explosion. An RPG or LAW would punch through like it wasn't there. That's why if you look at pictures from Vietnam, you may see infantry riding on top instead of inside one. It was safer to be outside the box it if an anti-tank rocket hit, and the north had access to RPG-2s and RPG-7s. Tow missiles were launched from a disposable tube that was mounted on the electronic guidance module. The module was normally on a tripod base, but sometimes it was attached to a support post in a Jeep, and sometimes on a support post inside an M113. Then someone got the idea that if they built a turret mechanism and had two launchers side by side, they could make better use of the APC's ability to carry weight.
