Kael'thas literally did nothing wrong, they did him extremely dirty in WoW. It was either choosing Illidan (who ended up also really doing nothing wrong, woohoo for the easily manipulated player characters) or pretty much guaranteed death for him and all his people and/or in the very best case scenario where they still managed to pull through they just live a battle to get used as cannon fodder again in the next one until even the last one of them dies, as Garithos was already doing. Garithos got what he fucking deserved.

Just listen to Kael’thas’ voice acting in the last two missions. They turned him into full on super villain prior to WoW.

WC3 doesn't really give enough information to judge. Allying with the Naga at this point certainly does not seem wrong, but we never learn their true agenda despite them clearly being loyal to their own sunken kingdom rather than Illidan. Maybe they're just emo elves in desperate need of hugs, or maybe they really do want to drown the entire surface world. We also never learn the logistics on the larger scale. For example from what we are shown in-game there is no clear pragmatic reason why abandoning Garithos and fleeing to Kalimdor was not an option, possibly even striking a bargain with Malfurion at the end of the previous campaign as Garithos definitely did not suddenly turn racist afterwards. On the less scrupulous side assassination or political intrigue with other Alliance leaders might also have been an option, IIRC the guy did not display much competence later on against Sylvanas. As for the final cutscene in this video: again "demons" aren't too well defined at this point so there is no telling whether that proposal would be "dangerous but feasible" (maybe some Matrix-style demon batteries? Or just kill a bunch and purify their energy to form a new improvised Sunwell?) or a slow and insidious path to certain doom (the RoC orc campaign and Sargeras' tomb lean more in this direction). I disagree with Jayborino's claim of Kael becoming a "super villain" as a) he is clearly suffering from some kind of withdrawal or similar mental illness caused by his addiction, b) he needs to maintain a certain image in order to actually benefit from his deal with Illidan, whether he ultimately agrees or not, and c) while Illidan himself is written as a complete fool throughout both NE campaigns and his methods have always been questionable at best, ultimately his goals are still somewhat noble in the grand scheme of things. Posturing aside Kael still has the opportunity to help him _without_ stooping quite as low himself.

@@Photoloss Well, it's kinda implied that they were sorrounded by Garithos' forces, also the undead, that they managed to push back but not cleanse, as we see later in the Scourge campaign that they still have a shitton of power in Lordaeron+in the prison escape in the same campaign they are already besieging Dalaran again after you repelled them the previous mission. They couldn't really get to the ocean or have time to mass migrate to Kalimdor. Maybe they had the chance before, but at that point Kael still felt that a last bit of honor was binding them to the Alliance. When he wanted to turn back it was already too late. (Just as an extra I'm mentioning that if the secret level is canon then Kael wouldn't have a freaking chance at escaping on foot lol) You must also consider the fact that going to the other side of the planet doesn't mean your enemies will stop chasing you. At the time the premise of escaping to an entirely different planet where your enemies really wouldn't be able to trace you back, and on top of that there was this powerful guy that knew some kind of solution to the elves' psychological problems, and would let you and your people benefit from conquering the entire place while killing demons and their worshippers at the same time, and on top of that you already made friendos with their followers, well, it wasn't an unreasonable choice, it was seen as the best option, and it most probably was when he had to take it. In the end, pushing aside any kind of dark agenda, the other option was total extinction, so he did the right thing in my book. His story is kinda sad because he seemed like a competent guy until he started to lose his mind, if Garithos didn't leave him no choice he would've become an extremely valuable ally, as in this mission he would've been able to hold his ground easily if he still had all the other soldiers from other races that weren't elves, since he thought that doing it with all of them didn't sound too difficult.

@@Masterwar15 Oh I definitely agree Kael made the best choice from his position of limited knowledge _in this instance_ where Garithos had left him to die. I am just saying the game does not sufficiently demonstrate he had to be in said position in the first place. When we first meet Kael he shows no animosity towards Tyrande (or Maiev for that matter) and his caravan is fleeing north, *away* from Dalaran. He is then seen in the outskirts of Dalaran where Malfurion and Tyrande show no concern over the matter of safely making it back to shore even though their alliance with the Naga presumably ended when Illidan fled through his portal. And from that golden opportunity he somehow goes to being surrounded by undead, serving a racist bastard who seemingly has been doing his worst for quite a while. They certainly _could_ give an explanation as to why this happened without placing any blame on Kael, but they haven't. But if later story parts demanded it they could just as easily make Kael a traitorous fool who had planned to salvage what was left of Dalaran and use its magic against both the undead _and Garithos._

Actually, this is just 10% of it. The Blood Elves were still willing to work with the Alliance even after Garithos died. The 90% is the Night Elves sabotaging the Ghostlands

Kind of a shame the new races introduced in this campaign--as well as the high elf Alliance variant--never got officially balanced enough to be playable factions. Would have been fun additions to multiplayer.

@@unkindled6410 yes that is a possibility however it's kind of hard to do while I do admit that they should have already built the campaigns around more balanced units there's no really good way to change it right now also you would have to make more units because the Naga have way too few units and like almost no upgrades and then again two Naga Royal guards can infinitely stun a unit until it dies via crushing wave

@@ethanthaman2858 if the remake was an actual good remake we would have had Naga and Blood/High Elf as an actual faction with proper complete tech trees and why not but unfortunately we live in the time where blizzard is just activision wearing the formers carcass as a coat for years now, and we know how that affected all the franchises we love because activision is one of the 3 horsemen of shitty game dev companies along with konami and EA. this remake being so bad was them pissing on blizzards grave one last time before dragging the carcass coat over the pissed soil to trully disgrace their legacy.

Attacking orange before green is a wise decision. Orange loves to annoy you by sending a bunch of chaff (6+ crypt fiends plus 1 or 2 necromancers) to defend green, which has way too many fliers but doesn't give half a shit about defending orange.

Naga myrmidons and royal guards were my favourite units appearance wise, I really hate what they did to them in reforged. Btw you can use Royal guards' skills on buildings as well, they do full damage plus stun.

@@terryderry_ I actually like the most of the new models in reforged but in my opinion those two units looked more threatening in the original, there is something about the new models that doesn't feel right for me. I don't have any knowledge about WoW though and it probably has something to do with it.

I never understood why Blizzard didn't use the Elven Barracks for the Blood Elves tech tree in the other missions. The Human Barracks has the Lordaeron flag on it, which makes zero sense (apart from the two first missions)

I don't think the enemy ever attacked the middle Observation Tower in the original, so that's kind of a neat change. 38:30 - the reason the Royal Guard was stuck in place is because it had both the Nerubian Tower slow, and the Cripple slow on it. The slow effects stack.

The Naga, while not commonly scene at this point, are in general evil Nazi assholes. The Sea Witch who attacked the Trolls is an example of typical Naga behavior. Vashj was so kind to Kael and the Blood Elves partly because she needed them as much as she needed her, and because they felt some kinship and respect for them due to the Blood Elves and Naga having once been Highborne long ago. This is also not something that seems very common amongst them.

Alternate ending: Kael didnt refused the help of the Nagas, but decided to build up a scene to make it seem like everyone died. When Garithos and his army return, they would fight against the undear and lose. In case they won, Kael could have had Garithos captured and weakened. Without his command, the humans could have a better future

I've always had this feeling, where despite having given previous warnings, Garithos arranged for Kael'thas accepting the Naga's aid by taking all infantry, cavalry, and support teams to the front lines, simply so he could label them all the elves as traitors.

It almost sounds as if, despite giving Kael previous orders, he eventually decided to set the elves up as "proof" to the Alliance that the elves cannot be trusted.

And then when it didn't work, he went with the Naga as an excuse. ... nevermind that I don't think the Alliance has actually encountered Naga at this point. So, he sends Uriah on a dangerous mission hoping he'll be killed, and thus, his wife now available. A 'Uriah gambit' thus, is when you're sending someone into danger with the specific intent they die.
