Love the update, honestly I prefer a bit of time lapse and in depth to see what it takes to restore these wagons.

Definitely would recommend a corrosion inhibitor and primer before using the filler as mentioned by other viewers. No amount of needle gunning will remove all the corrosion. You have some deep pits were the grain of the steel has been attacked. This is were you will have problems reappearing in the future.

Yeh, only working with what I had at the time! Other than cut out all the rust and re-weld new stuff in…

Hey Ollie, I prefer the segments where you explain what you are doing- it shows your thought process and talking through things really adds a lot of value to your videos! Keep up the good work!

I’m glad you’ve finally picked a project from your fleet and stuck with it. As much as it’s nice working on various different things at once it does make progress very slow, even with new recruits. Also episode format is much better now, I think you’ve finally got the balance right in your videos. Keep it up!

Fascinating to see the steam valve at 1 to 1 scale as I am currently trying to make this on an 00 scale tank wagon. The whole series has been a huge help in understanding how these wagons are put together. Keep up the good work!

I'd have put a coat of rust stop, phosphate rust neutraliser so it kills all the deep embedded rust that will come back in time, without treatment. Then fill it with Isopon. When you put the restored straps back on. Get some rubber strips the same width as the strap to act as a anti rub protection, so it cushions the strap to the tank.

Go to a local car paint factors, you can buy 5lt tins of filler, Used to work out a lot cheaper when we used to work on rusty 70s cars

Hi ollie, getting on good, I'm one of the guys from the gwili group, not a criticism but I'd very much recommend primer and undercoat before you put any filler on then undercoat again over the top, you may find the filler will drop out in a year or 2, cheers Dyfan

Hi mate, thank you for watching, always good to hear from other wagon groups! Is that what’s worked best for you? Speaking to others who’ve used it have said it should go directly onto the metal? Otherwise if the paint fails that will let all the filler drop off to?

I prefer shorter explanations, because if explanations get long and complicated, I can't take it in very well. It's because of my minor Autism disability. Nice to know progression is moving along. I hope you'll be doing something more festive before Christmas. Deck the sheds with engines gleaming, Tis the season to be steaming. I'm very sorry to say I had a mishap with the WR keyring I got from you. Is there any chance you could send me a new one?

Another great presentation. Any chance of a feature-length episode ?...only kidding! I didn't realize these tankers had steam piped through. I suppose this was piped along the whole consist and design to keep the contents 'runny'?
@undefinedfunction
@undefinedfunction 6 күн бұрын
Adam here. Exactly correct! Some product couldn't afford to get cold so the tanks would have insulation etc and had to be off loaded in particular times, in the case of 1855, low pressure steam would warm the product enabling for a smoother discharge. The valve shown in the video was the entry point, the exit was at the opposite end of the wagon under it and it would just discharge to atmosphere. Inside the tank is a coil of pipe work that the steam would flow through - think of it as a bit like a towel rail!

I dont know if this tank is set with pressure safety valves but i would look into having them set to open at a lower pressure owing to the age and corrosion of the tank.

For what it is worth, my opinion is that you should do a small area in real-time, then time-lapse the rest, which would just be duplicating what has already been shown and seen.

I would need ALOT of rust treatment, easiest thing to do is needle gun and wire wheel it back to metal and start again….

Might be good to put three coats of bitumen on the wood facing the tank surface. Longer is more engaging. Is this the 'End' part one, or simply one of the tanks ends?

Can I suggest that to level large areas of filter use an old car numberplate as a huge scraper, works a treat, less waste, less sanding. This guy shows the idea kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJSWoZRmit19e6s

Time lapse with some real time highlights of the more detailed work is best for me, so speed through the repetitive work and stop when you get to a new action or plan and explain / show what you are doing . Cheers from AUS 🦘🇦🇺
