Wardruna is actually magical. I mean that literally. Many of these songs are actual spells aimed at connecting you to your ancestors, to your heart, and to the land around you. Go deep into the origin story of the band and you will see. I love them, they remind us of our roots in an era of rootlessness.
@Assdafflabaff
@Assdafflabaff 5 жыл бұрын
The rootlessness is manufactured my friend. This history was supposed to be erased by now so we would forget everything we came from and accept the new masters. Thanks to the strength of our ancestors we still have memories of the times before Christianity, Islam, Judaism, the wicked 3 came to Europe.

Billie Eilish has said that Aurora is one of the inspirations who got her into music: “When I was 12, I saw Aurora’s ‘Runaway’ music video,” she once told Vanity Fair. “Something inside me clicked, like, that is what I want to do, no matter whether it goes anywhere or not.” Aurora was 11 when she wrote 'Runaway'.

This song is very emotional, very spiritual. The old ways, our old traditions and beliefs are still very much alive. We call this way of life forn seidr (old traditions). The song is about walking on the road into the realm of death, about not being afraid. Its like singing to a friend and guiding him/her on this way over the bridge of Gjallar, they sing ” I will follow you over the bridge of Gjallar with my song”. Its so beautiful. And the end of the song: ”You will be free from the bonds that bound you, You are free from the bonds that bound you!”

I made this request just a few days ago, glad to see that someone had requested it before me! This song is truly immersive, and passionate. Helvegen means ‘The Road to Hel’ . This is a song about dying and honoring those who have died. In the past, they had songs for everything. When someone was dying, people would sit by their beds and sing them over to the other side. The author of this song wrote it wondering who would sing him to the other side. He says the old songs are gone and they need to make new ones.

Awesome! Finally someone reacts to Wardruna! And the version with Aurora. This video is filmed from a concert in Wardruna and Aurora´s hometown, Bergen in Norway. My daughter and I was on this concert, and it was awesome. They use replica of old ages instruments. The song Helvegen is about death, dying and remembering those who have passed. About crossing over and about letting go.

Love Wardruna and had the pleasure of seeing them live here in Norway 2 years ago, a truly magical and spiritual evening! And yes, they sing mainly in Norwegian (west coast dialect), sometimes in old Norse. (like the last bit of Helvegen, which is two phrases from the poem Hávamál, the words of Odin teaching man how to act in life) The way they take old instruments and (probably) music they played here a thousand years ago and make something new (lyrics) with it. This song especially has a special place in my heart... and it asks the question "Who will sing for me when I die?" , since we in modern times don't have songs like they used to. When it was time to sow, time to harvest, when someone was born and when someone died. There is so many songs I could recommend by this group... Solringen, Jara, Raido, Völuspá, Rotlaust Tre Fell, Bjarkan, Isa...

@kheidal
@kheidal 5 жыл бұрын
@@ingovonderluhe2174 It has nothing to do with the shop Helvete nor Christianity and their Hell. At all. The realm of Hel comes from Norse mythology, one of the Nine realms. The word/name Hel means something like "the one/it who hides" , also can mean simply "death" and Hel and the realm of the dead are supposedly far older than the notion of Valhall. Long before Christianity even arrived in Scandinavia, and Hell with it. So yeah. Helvegen = the road to Hel. Not Hell.. and any translation making it "the road to Hell" is just wrong and translated by assumption and not real knowledge. So.. yeah.

I Love your reactions. Wardruna rarely comes to the states. Their only show this year in the states is at Red Rocks in Colorado, which I am fortunate enough to be able to go see in October.

That last resitation part is from Håvamål; The norse equivalent to the old testament Proverbs: 'Cattle die, friends die. Even you die. But if your legacy lives on, you will live for ever' (or something in that direction)

Funfact. Old Norse mythology is an adaption of Proto-germanic Mythology. Odin was Wotan/Wodan/Woden before and Thor was Donar (wich is still present in the German word for Thunder "Donner") before. Of course over the hundrets of years they had many names, though the old norse are the most known thanks to music, movies and series. OH and Germany has no royalty anymore btw. All royal titles any germans had are LONG removed by law.

I adore her reaction to his growl at the end. Her eyes went as wide as mine when he sings Du er løyst frå banda som batt deg!

Yes Kel & Rich, I agree with both of you this song is very hypnotic, and I felt like I was on a journey through centuries of Nordic traditions. I felt like I was in a trance, I felt like i was flying or like I was soaring. It was spellbinding, powerful, and it made me feel at peace. This was an awesome reaction to this song.

So I think this language resonates with every soul in the world. Cause I am from Russia and though I do not understand, I can totally catch the idea. And I just feel like my soul is gonna explode or burst away from my body

A great performance,recorded in September last year in my hometown Bergen. Glad you liked them. It so happens to be Wardrunas (and Auroras) hometown also,so this was a most anticipated event! And than Thor,the god of Thunder,came to town... from early morning,the rain poured down like a massive wall of water. This is Norways West coast,rain and stormy weather is in fact the usual weather - but never like that day. And than a dam broke.. A small one,but enough to flood one of the main roads for the rest of the day. Yeah,the road my bus was supposed to use! So I missed the show,dammit,and it stopped raining exactly when the band hit the stage....Later I learned that it was the first time EVER any of the dams had given in. I mean,what`s the odds? 😆

They use medieval authentic tones and instruments in their music giving the Nord/Viking style ambience.. this particular song is about the then afterlife and what the mythology relates to about moving on after passing.. its epic!!!!

yes it was Norwegian. the song is called Helvegen which means Way to Hel . not to hell itself but the underworld .Wardruna is from norway . its all Pagan most of there songs are about Vikings and the way life was back then . this coming from a guy whos grandma came from there . heh who married a scottsman (my grandpa) guess that makes me a celting on my dads side . hehe but yeah wardruna is just pure power and pride . just hear one song from them all day . you feel like you can take on a whole army by yourself . lol
