I'm a Scottish guy that's been lurking on this song for years. Tonight I'm drunk and feel the need for a comment. Even the beginning of this song makes the hairs on my arm stand up. I don't understand the language but I feel the power of the message. I haven't dared looked up the translation because I enjoy it misunderstood. The tone alone carries the song.

This is the most heartbreaking version of this song I've heard. The version with Aurora brings out more of an ethereal, tribal, experience that goes back to the days of Viking conquests of over 1,000 years ago when Odin was an all powerful god to the Norsemen, whereas this version feels more modern, from 500 years ago and reflects more the sadness of loss of loved ones.

@@joshuarooney8614 Thor was the most powerful god only in your comic books. With a last name like Rooney you must know all about Scandinavians. Let's celebrate Syttende Mai together next year. You bring the lutefisk. (that should give you a hint of where my family is from.)

Some of us are feeling strange connection and passion for being part of something great. We are not happy in this modern materialistic world where we only fight to survive from paycheck to paycheck. And why ? This is all madness and we will never be truly happy and free in this world. We are missing the old ways when we were connected to nature. We should get true friends and people who share same dream together to build new world. There we would be truly free to create our own destiny as equals. We should stop wasting our life we wont be here forever!
@scottk15254 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: You can still connect to nature in the modern age. I think people over-romanticize historical eras based almost entirely on movies and books. But you have *no idea* what life was like back then. Would you really trade the safety, comfort, convenience, knowledge, and opportunity of the modern world for a time of war, plague, rape, ignorance, & starvation? Would you trade living in a climate-controlled home with 10 grocery stores nearby for being genuinely afraid of starving and freezing to death every winter? Would you trade all the knowledge you have of the world for not knowing anything outside of your village, and never being exposed to even a single book? Would you trade living to 90 for most likely dying in your thirties? It's fun to fantasize about the "old ways," but it's another to be so delusional that you honestly think that a time of almost no options and no knowledge would be better than a time of infinite options and infinite knowledge.

@@scottk1525 i dont think its about going back to the caves but getting the best of both worlds instead. Modern life has brought great confort but theres a lot of detachtment in our lives. So in this regard we can learn many things about ancient cultures. Doesnt mean we should copy everything as it was done before but rather take back what is missing and needed right now.

@@scottk1525 I think you have the wrong idea.. If you feel and think this way you are enslaved the whole meaning behind this is the human race is enslaved by the wage.. We never needed money and our ancestors lived through bater and opportunity.. When civilization exterminated the lives of my ancestors and brought a new era of slavery..we have to pay for food and water when they used to grow it and receive the water from the streams.. I don't think you understand. This apparent new age of knowledge has only brought suffering to nations.. The dominance of superpowers and the destruction of our planet. I still think you don't see this.. And the most painful thing is that I get laughed at for worshipping the aseir and the old gods are forgotten as myths in history books. I don't think you would never understand.. You stand by the annihilation of humanity and our ways . You stand by the collapse of everything we knew and replaced it with synthetic slavery and the cancer of this world. It's disgusting to live in this age with no purpose at all.. When my ancestors where free to write their own destiny and to survive with purpose.. Take a step back and realise what hell we are in before you start saying we romanticise it.. We crave it we train for it and ragnarok hasn't even happened yet so there is time left to embrace your modern ideals

I believe it is now ca 5 days ago since I found this song - and must have already been listened to this masterpiece close to a 100 times now. Her voice is almost surreal. Like crystal - sharp, yet so fragile. Love it! And for me at least - it's certainly not about which version is better. I love the original, and loved the female lead/complement when they performed it together with Aurora....and this song, well it is just as a cover should be all about - same song, different feel. This will be played at my funeral - otherwise I'm not coming...no, joking aside - I've decided that this will be my funerary-song!
