This is awesome! We had this dillema a few years back and also made the switch... We call them 'Revit Farms' where I'm from.. I've ended up making separate farms for doors, windows, walls, railings, internal and external components etc. We then purge each Revit Project file after the delivery of the construction set to the client.. It keeps everything nice and light as all work off a cloud storage network.. Thank you Mike for all your really sweet Revit tricks! So many things I've noted/ saved on file to try implementing 😊very cool videos! - James (Australia)

I did this about a year ago. I am constantly adding new content to the warehouse and it allows me to experiment with schedules and and other annotations where I can them just do what you say, copy paste, and keep my starting files low overhead.

I believe makes sense, I work that way, the wharehouse way, and my template only have sheets and anottations stuff, not much families, runs smooth here. Thanks man very good content you have

I use the warehouse method too, except I place all my types as well as families. I export via Diroots and then update the costs back. The warehouse works REALLY well well applied to materials too - appreciate the upload 👌🏻

Omg Mike. I thought the warehouse idea was going to be my trademark! Well I guess you get the credit since you did a video on it first! It's a great concept and I'm glad you're utilizing it. I use this concept for my plumbing fixture families. I've found keeping the warehouse separate from the template has so many benefits, especially when it comes to updating one vs the other.

You should still make a video about it! Your videos are great and we have different viewers!!! Go for it!!

I think the best place to start is to get all of the free content from Autodesk. They have a lot that is free for you. If I can’t find what I need there, I go to the manufacturer website and see if they have a Revit family for download. If they don’t have one… I make them. :) I like doing it myself so I know exactly what the family can do.

It would be great to have a "general" warehouse to have as example and built up from there.... do you have one you could share? Great videos Mike Thank you

You can use your template and make a ‘warehouse’ so quickly. Put in your most used items (doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, cabinets.. etc.) And add to it over time.

I like the idea, but wouldn't it bog down your computer even more because now you have your project open and the warehouse project at the same time making it slower? We have a more hybrid approach with smaller categorized warehouses (ex. roof details, millwork, etc..), but I also still liek the ease of having everything in a template and just grabbing it when you need it

Having two projects open doesn’t slow down a computer nearly as much as WORKING in a file that is too big. Good idea having several warehouses.. but I just keep similar items near each other in a single warehouse file… either way works.
