One team played "Throw Ball" while the winning team actually played "Slapball". I like some of the new rules, including the hallway and defensive triangle. It stopped all that bunching up from last season. Having to replay pretty much every goal to make sure the person was basically a statue is kind of annoying.

Yeah, I understand the safety argument, but think the game would be a lot more dynamic if running slap shots were allowed. Maybe only if you're running on to a pass, no running self-slaps, to encourage more teamwork and assisting.

Scoring breakdown for anyone interested: Scoring Total 20/55 36.4% Shots Total: 7/32 21.9% Slaps Total: 13/23 56.5% Rippers: Scoring Total: 11/27 40.7% Shots Total: 2/15 13.3% Slap Total: 9/12 75.0% The Rippers had 3 shots that deserve an asterisk beside them. They had one penalty shot, and 2 freeze shots. Removing these 3 shots makes there total 1/12 or 8.3%. They were 50.0% on freeze shots. Freezers: Scoring Total: 9/28 32.1% Shot Total: 5/18 27.8% Slap Total: 4/10 40.0% The Freezers had one shot that deserves and asterisk. Ryan Cohen took a shot at the end of the first half that may have been after 0s on the clock. The shot missed. Removing it improves them to 9/27 33.3% total score, and 5/17 29.4% shooting. I did not think to keep track of individual scoring, assists, or to differentiate between competitive and noncompetitive shots until after the half. If I keep doing this in later videos, I'll try to keep track of those stats too.

These new rules open up some interesting opportunities for strategies. I wonder which defense will figure out a good rotation to defend the back door hallway pass first. EDIT: I have a few questions for clarification (even if no one responds) and a few suggestions for next time. Also, it sounds like I'm gonna pick on Penik, but it's just because I don't think he has great spatial awareness. Penik, if you're seeing this, I'm sorry. 1) At 9:50, Penik lifts his left foot, and the goal is disallowed. Then at 38:21, he does it again (albeit about 2"), but the goal is allowed. Where's the line on that? 2) How strict do y'all intend to be on the zone infractions? I won't list all the ones I spotted, but I have a few key ones I want to point out: -Penik crosses the crease on almost every single play when transitioning from the side of the crease to the hallway (11:49 and 27:05 give a real good view) -Penik crosses the triangle on offense multiple times (15:36 and twice at 15:47, for example) -Luke crosses through the Shady Rays square while defending (20:24) -Jack and Zo both have a foot in the triangle on defense (30:15) I don't mind not calling the more subtle ones that have no effect on the play, but some of the more egregious infractions (like Penik's double triangle cross) should probably be called. 3) I think there are some inconsistencies in disallowing goals due to "walking out of the shot." -Ryan's goal at 10:50 is called off for this reason, even though his front foot was planted, and the walk-out doesn't occur until the ball crosses the goal line. -Jolly walks out of the shot, although it's slightly more subtle, at 37:08. His goal is allowed. (To be clear, I think both of these goals should count.) -In my mind, Zo's walk-out at 42:50 is nearly identical to Ryan's, but this goal is allowed. Either it's inconsistent or y'all are just seeing something I'm not (which is very possible, to be fair). 4) This one kind of falls under the previous three points simultaneously (and the throw follow-through rule), though I believe it's likely just that I don't know the letter of the rule. Regarding Penik's goal at 39:38, his momentum on the shot causes him to lean forward and catch himself with his hands in the crease. This brings up three questions for me: a) Do zone infractions only apply to a player's feet? b) If not, why wouldn't this be disallowed? If a player can't cross into the defensive zone on their throw follow-through, why wouldn't it apply to the crease? c) Does this mean that a player can prevent a goal from being disallowed due to "walking out of the shot" if they simply use their hands to stop their momentum as long as their feet remain planted? Suggestions for next time: 1) Going back to Jack and Zo each having a foot in the defensive triangle, would you consider allowing for two feet at a time (rather than just one player)? It could help encourage defensive players to rotate in and out of the triangle rather than having one player plant there while another runs all the way around the triangle to get to the other side of the crease. 2) Also regarding the triangle, I think it makes it too discouraging for the offense the play in the center. I understand not wanting to crowd that one spot, but with the tip of the triangle extending so far out, it almost forces the offense to only play on the sides of the field. If you cut off the top 3-4 feet and turn it into a trapezoid instead, that could allow the offense to threaten a shot from the center, which would also make the defense have to strategize more. Strategy is the most interesting part of sports to me, which I think Jimmy can definitely relate to. I promise I won't be this critical on any video. I just wanted to offer my feedback and maybe get some clarification to help the fans understand and enjoy the game more thoroughly. If you took the time to read this, I sincerely thank you. I can't wait to see what the warehouse has in store for us in 2025!

What I like about the new rules is if you play one in the pyramid and 2 defenders on the posts then the half court throw is wide open and if you cover the throw then it's hard to cover the hallway switching on the posts
@sealclap_plays
@sealclap_plays 10 күн бұрын
@@oreocookiedough I completely agree, which is why I think rotation on defense is key here. The hallway forces you to either decide to rotate between guarding the triangle and the backdoor play or just having one guy run ALL THE WAY around the triangle like Penik did for the majority of the game. Though I guess you could also play it like a hockey penalty kill: position one player on each side of the crease and have the player in the triangle step up to challenge the throws. But then you really open up the east/west passing lane, which can cause your team to have to scramble. Regardless, defense is now more than standing right in front of the crease for most of the game.
@oreocookiedough
@oreocookiedough 10 күн бұрын
@@sealclap_plays I was thinking maybe another shady rays throw square like where the penalty shot spot is to make the offensive middle area more enticing to offense because at the moment the only real viable slapping zones are the sides of the net. The only other rule tweak I would suggest is that the person in possession can't move (like in ultimate frisbee). Makes your offense flow around more to be a more efficient offense and kind of indirectly would teach people not to be in motion on slaps. Would also be safer that way. Would also make throw square tosses not be illegally in motion. You could eliminate the whole hallway and triangle with that change I think. Go back to just the original slapball crease.

I’m leaning towards thinking the calls on the moving feet is based on which way they move. Cohen’s movement continued in the direction he was moving to make the slap, whereas Zo and Jolly later in the game both distinctly moved away from the goal after the slap, suggesting that the momentum wasn’t a necessary result of the movement needed to make the slap. That’s the only conclusion I can come to. For all the movement through restricted areas, I know jimmy was basically saying that it’s on the offense to throw the ball if a defender crosses the hallway to get their free play, so presumably it’s only if the position becomes relevant to a shot or play. I do wonder what that means for offensive players moving through the crease/triangle since all you would have to do is not throw the ball near them until they were clear, presumably in a more advantageous position than should have been allowed

Love having Slapball and Captain's League back! New rules spread the floor in a much more intuitive way (hallway is very pickleball-kitchen-esque and I love that). I do agree with some of the comments I read that stopping down after every goal to analyze and make sure everything is legal does kill the flow of the broadcast (so to speak), especially after big goals. I'm sure things will tighten up as more games are played, great work as always Warehouse gang!

Cohen had one in the first half that was similar to zo's last one. The main difference i see is that cohen had his front foot off the ground as he went to bounce for the slap and his back foot came up on the hit where as zo had his front foot planted when he initiated bounce and his back foot came up on the hit. Im honestly not sure of the rule. After rewatching jimmy made a comment about zo's front foot being planted before starting the bounce and remaining planted until after the ball went through so maybe that is the issue

I have a couple of suggestions on how you guys can improve the game. 1) You guys should be jump stopping every time you approach the triangle. Whether you have the ball or not, when you approach the zone you should be taking a shallow jump and stomping with both feet to stop your momentum and have a solid base to slap or receive a pass to slap. This will really cut down on disallowed shots due to feet moving and if you have the ball it will give you the option to take a quick bounce and slap, pass, or just back it back out and look for more space. 2) If you are moving around the outside of the triangle you should be shuffling sideways like you’re playing defense in basketball. This way you keep yourself a threat to receive a pass and slap immediately the whole time. 3) You guys should consider incorporating a slap pass to draw the defense. When you bounce the ball the defense is going to assume you’re slapping and converge, which should create a lane to slap pass the ball to a teammate and give them an easy wide open slap I can make a video demonstrating all this if you need. This would really take the gameplay up a notch.

Here was have Zo collecting 6 in a single game and 11 between the 2 teams. It looks like keeping offense out of the triangle gives goalies more vision on the throws. Luke was 19/43 on throws in tournament 1. Game 1 of the Deuce he scored just 1/7 and that was on a Freeze. This is good.

I love how Zo played as essentially a point guard in this game. He was controlling their possession the entire time.

New rules are very good in my opinion. The only rule tweak I would suggest is that the person in possession can't move (like in ultimate frisbee). Makes your offense flow around more to be a more efficient offense and kind of indirectly would teach people not to be in motion on slaps. Would also be safer that way. Would also make throw square tosses not be illegally in motion.

Alright a few thoughts here. First off I think we're seeing an evolution of slap ball that is really shining. Second, I'm a fan of jack Doyle forever go rippers. Third zo is a killer and that last minute bounce in was dirty. Forth Ryan Cohen is a stud, he sound be feared in any sport he plays. Lastly I think shelfy had an absolutely stunning debut as the incoming captain. Well done everyone. Go captains league.

At first when the new rules and zones were being introduced I was skeptical. However through one half this game has seemed to be far more dynamic and exciting in gameplay vs season 1. Solid improvements, kudos to the entire jomboy team!

I like the hallway and the new rules. I think you should be able to shoot while someone is in the hallway as long as they don’t stop or make contact with the ball. Creates some timing screen plays I think would be cool.

21:35 surely if Luke didn't step out the goal should have counted because it would have bounced if Shelfy didn't get his foot there?

Jimmy said that was a strat. He said he would rush people in the square since the ball hitting someone doesn't count as a bounce. He says it right on the timestamp you posted too.

Love seeing Slapball back. Like you stated in your broadcast, getting used to the new rules. I do like the alley. Really opens the cross-goal passing lane. My suggestion would be to add a drop net like they have on goals in Olympic handball. This would give a better visual to viewers that a goal was scored.

Like the improvements. What I would suggest is “low post” boxes where the majority of the Rippers goals were scored that could be occupied exclusively by the defense. This way an over abundance of those types of goals could be stopped but at risk of giving avenues to throws and Shadyrays shots. Just a thought; great job!

Huge fan of Slapball season 1 here. I really like the new rules though, I just think the court looks weird! I think it might work better to have the neutral zone extend all the way to the goal wall instead of the silly little square, but keep the bounce shot rule beyond half court, and it might open up a lot more angles. Then I think just make the triangle into a semi circle like the top of the key in basketball, but keep the hallway since I like the crosscourt passes. Idk why I just hate the triangles lol.

Glad that they've tinkered with the rules of slapball it definitely has the most potential has an actual sport. Hope it gets a spot as a franchise sport eventually once its figured out. I do think the defensive triangle could be shortened to allow more central play. As its gone from everyone crowding the middle to everyone sticking to the sides.

That Rippers offense is full of playmakers. Who would have thought Zo would be prime chris paul and BBD would have 3 goals. If BBD even plays average in goal, this team will be dangerous. Freezers are solid, but their offense can be stale without a Ryan shot and doesn't help that Jolly shoots like 1/10. Shelfy played great in net, but will need to find a way to make an impact offense or this team is toast.

The Rippers are too talented to let a game get this close. They have the skills on offense and defense to win, and they know how to communicate, they just need to lock in. Ryan Cohen is magical to watch and it will be interesting to see how many wins he can drag the corpses on his team to.

With the hallway and defensive rules, scoring is going to go WAY up this season once teams start to figure it out. It's going to turn into basketball where you're scoring on 80% of your possessions or you're losing significantly.

During the rules explanation I had assumed the one defender in the crease was in addition to the goalie but based on the gameplay it looks like that means only one defensive player total is allowed in the crease?
