What makes a person on warfarin more susceptible to internal bleeding vs a person not on the med? Is it only limited to traumatic events?

Normally if there is an injury leading to bleeding, your body naturally forms clots to stop this bleeding and heal the tissue. Warfarin reduces your body's ability to form these clots. If you have an injury while on Warfarin, you significantly increase your risk of this internal bleeding occurring which can lead to significant blood loss. Trauma is the most common contributor to internal bleeding. However, conditions such as gastritis or gastroenteritis (inflammation of stomach lining or infection of digestive tract) are other situations that could lead to internal bleeding.

@MightyxBALTi there is no concern with resistance training while taking Warfarin. It's contact sports or activities that could lead to an injury like falling off a bike that could increase risk of internal bleeding.

On warfarin I’m much more easily fatigued. Prior to Warfarin I exercised daily. How can I return to daily exercise?

I would recommend starting in small doses. Start with a few days a week of 15-20min walks if you can tolerate that. Then add in more days in the week of 15-20min sessions of exercise as your body gets adjusted. Start with light to moderate intensity exercise and build from there. Continue to listen to your body. If you find the fatigue is getting worse, most likely you are doing too much. Reduce the intensity or the duration of your exercise and go from there. If the fatigue does not improve, I would follow up with your doctor.

@@nextgenrehab Helpful advise! My approach was 0-100. This wasn’t something I could maintain long term. My plan is to slowly adjust my alarm. I want to incorporate a morning exercise. As you noted I’ll start moderately with 15-20min sessions. In addition to scheduling I’ll reach out to my Hematologist and see his advice.
