IIRC the recording was taken during the Sounds of the System panel, so the team did have at least an hour and a half to integrate it. Technically closer to two and a half due to the Soulframe showcase and intermissions, but it was implied pretty heavily that they could have done the two demos in either order so I'm going to assume they had it done by Tennolive's start.

Yeah, that's what makes this reveal so _utterly insane._ Warframe was always a game set so far in the future that, aside from the names of the planets in the solar map, it might as well be taking place in an entirely made-up universe. Even Warhammer 40k has more connection to what we know as our present day than Warframe does, and THAT setting's name speaks for it. To suddenly connect Warframe to the present day setting (even if it is 23 years ago) is like if a spaceship full of aliens suddenly crashed into the middle of Lord of the Rings.

Same thing back in Beta in 2013 with Paris and Dual Zorens and it was the first time I had gameplay match up to the rhythm of the combat in any game so seemlessly, and one of the things that made me fall in love with this game.

For those confused about the significance of 1999 and why we're in a timeline set just before year 2000, this was the same time when Y2K was a cause of concern for everyone. This was centred around an issue within computers at the time that could've caused widespread problems when the year turns 2000 especially in computer reliant industries. The public became aware of the issue and that caused widespread panic believing that Y2K was going to be apocalyptic in scale. This is why the enemies are humanoid Infested masses made of TV screens (you can even see Infested growth in some parts of the environment in this video), it's based on the idea of Y2K turning out to be an apocalyptic event with "Master Entrati" (I put that in quotations because it's fairly obvious that it's Wally and Albrecht was right in his fear that his "other" escaped) having something to do with it.

A few things I've noticed. Arthur and Excalibur share the same story they are based on (heck king arthur wields excalibur) not to mention Arthur use's Radial Blind. You can even see the lotus symbol peeking out from under his shoulder straps. Theres a mural on the floor of the Sun and Moon, a very common theme in warframe. While arthur is on the phone with Aoi, you can hear her using Mag's abilities (which could me me presuming it her using them and not someone else) The monitors bear the symbol of the Lidless eye, which is another name for the Indifference and the Man in The Wall The screens say Solar Winds, Silverball, Pariah, and Warpath which are all DE games DE picked the song from Nine Inch Nails and it has a fitting name of "Into the Void" which is super fitting Now what I wanna know is how much time actually passes between the two. According to the game, the Helminth strain was developed during the old war, and we didnt see warframes until much later. But we do see infestation, similar to the Mutualist strain given it taking over electronics and assimilating them, but we also take a look at Arthur's back and we see evidence of either sword metal or some kind of biomechanics going on which either or leads me to believe theres some proto-orokin organization that Dr. Entrati is a part of. My guess, Arthur and Aoi are genetically engineered super-soldier type who serve the organization (which I believe to be the origins of the orokin) and the two of them are bodyguards (kinda like proto-dax, mirroring Excalibur umbra). Dr. Entrati was most likely influenced by the Man in the wall to further his research, develop the infestation, and is is the reason for the outbreak but also for the orokin (the wealthy execs) fleeing to Lua and eventually becoming the orokin cult race. Also, lately I've been thinking of the grineer, corpus, infestation, and ostron as one race (humans) diverged down multipler paths. Questions I have? If there was an outbreak on earth, how did they get earth to the way it is? Is it even the same earth? Is it even the same solar system? Or just something close enough. I know theres mentions of infestation outbreaks with the orokin and they sealed them in Dark Sectors (ooo a call back) which leads me to think they flat out found a new system, which kinda kills my theory of ostron and orokin sharing a common ancestor. I got alot of reading to do as I still barely know anything about the lore I heard someone say that DE used the countdown from tennocon as the new years count down not even a few hours later, which if true is super cool!

It was mentioned in multiple quests that Earth got really really really fucked and Silvana (Silver grove creator) was effectively one of the scientists in Earth reclamation process. Earth's terrain does look very wonky so the theory that Infestation did overrun Earth at one point but got purged (somehow) would not be out of question. That begs the question how the fuck does Eris and Mercury look like on the surface, if Eris used to be an active warzone before it got completely infested

the problem is the tons of years betwen this "past" and the orokin empire... the man in the wall it was clearly unknow by the orokins, eldritch just fear he, and the tenno, well we dont know the really history we only have a few pieces, we know that the tenno get his powers because the void, and the man in the wall comes from there or is the void manifestation itself, in some way the void just try to manipulates the reality to invade or dominate or pass through to the systems, in the other hand, in the lore orokins create the tennocyte, and the warframe process itself, and ballas warframes, the orokins are very humanoids but a bit different, the skins tones, the anatomy with that arm, i dont know looks like a millions years of distance of the humanity right now, but warframe has this platonic world where the mind is like something different or isolate from the body, so it can be a manifestation of that a mind... i think in fact duviri is a manifestation from the drifter, cause i was thinking, u know, the drifter get the worse of the void (in some way) that dont give him any hability, but i think drifter have powers just he dont use directly like operator, maybe this can be a manifestation of the void, playing with the memories of humanity, dont know... but it looks good!

DE is not a small studio they are on top of the f2p market and thus want to expand and make Warframe a whole franchise with the addition of Soulframe and the more expansive and complex story telling. While the original 2013 Warframe is almost non-existent anymore I would 100% bet that the game would've been damned to obscurity, if it would've stayed exactly the same. And let's be fair. Also: Considering that Dark Sector is the original prototype version of Warframe, the 1999 is probably the closest they could come to the original vision of warframe.

​​@@ZzVinniezZit's not canon, that was confirmed years past in a devstream that they wouldn't attempt to make ties in Warframe with Dark Sector. You could see 1999 as a spiritual successor to Dark Sector in concept, adapting it to Warframe instead of the reverse. The Proto, Nemesis and Vintek skins are just that: skins. Though I do wonder if any unique shoutout is going to be made if you play the quest while using that skin, maybe "Arthur" will wear the proto armour or is renamed to "Hayden" for as long as the skin is equipped. We'll have to see for ourselves in 300some days.

Literally. It’s crazy how it started with little to no story and they slowly gave it shape and form. It took time but fuck, from beginning to where we are at right now it’s just mind blowing. They’ve grown so much, from not explaining anything, to putting cutscenes and more lore into the game where even a new player can make sense by playing, watching a video about the lore and go “oooooh it all makes sense now I see, so when I was in this quest” and before you know it they’re pulled into doing more research. Warframe isn’t a complex story, it’s just knowing how to connect the dots, but sure we are still unsure on the motives of every character and what awaits us in the future.

Oh, and the craziest thing is that this company simply relies on selling skins. Yeah they sell other “boosters” like straight up buying platinum to unlock frames and weapons but that’s not really the end game. It’s all about the cosmetics. Nowhere in the game you’ll see people with default skins and default colors lmao everyone stitches their own creation. Other companies should take from this

I like that we are getting a darker and grittier look into what warframe originally looked like (Dark Sector). Though it may not be Dark Sector, it seems like its being revisited in a reimagination, and I am all for it I love this aesthetic. It's Earth in 1999, but definitely an alt Earth, language looks different. Maybe what was told from the past, the Orokin Empire, was a lie and they rewrote history. Something else may have happened, the infestation and the power of the void existed before the Orokin Empire (probably). That's my theory though. Added Note: I'm wrong, something about this world seems to be conflicting. 2:36 Looks like there are show times for movies, and it's all in English. Maybe this is a simulation of the past and most of the language is translated for the Orokin, Tenno, etc. can read.

the show times are from one of the fake ads that played during the tennocon live stream between panels, and you can see bits of some of the other ads playing on that screen. i currently think that the ads are just little references to various things de made and don't have any lore importance, but i could be wrong! would have interesting implications given that one of the ads mentions kaithes

SPOILER New update confirms its part of the current timeline. Im pretty sure the Technocyte is the first large threat humanity faces. Personally, I think an outbreak happens in 1999. Sometime after the outbreak is repelled, Albrecht discovers the Void. Sometime after that, Void travel is established and the Sentients are developed to terraform a new home for humanity/orokin likely because of the damage the technocyte causes to the Sol system. They terraform Sol to be habitable but by this point the Orokin caste believes themselves gods, so they want their own home. So they send the Sentients to Tau and they end up rebelling. Shortly after that the Zariman incident happens, and Ballas uses Orokin tech to manipulate the Helminth into creating new Warframes. I think the Helminth strain possibly originated from Arthur, as he's the earliest example of an existing warframe. Or, proto warframe. Hes still very much human, but dying from it.

Let me say from the bottom of my heart that i just love the idea of a fresh start for warframe Near 1400h in this game, it is very special to me and it has qualities you see nowhere between its unique mood and the incredible mobility gameplay that makes anything else pale in comparison but i have a personal issue with the power creep and particularly with the designs necessary to make things possible while allowing it I can't really enjoy the game anymore (one might say it did a stellar job already) but a new fresh game with the same general concept would be quite the sight

Spoilers for the new quest so I'm gonna attempt to lock it behind a 'read more' thing Something I noticed while getting to play this sequence myself yesterday (as this part of 1999 released yesterday) is that I think Arthur might be in the process of being corrupted by the Helminth strain right now during this, or at least overcome by some kind of sickness. Logically it'd be the Helminth strain, so that's why I bring it up. He seems to be incredibly agile, with the same movement as normal Warframes, but has moments where he's coughing and collapsing from exhaustion.
