How do you actually disengage dwell time mid air when shooting above with the Assault Class?

How do you quick slam on controller? All I know how to do is charge it in the air

melee button while in the air but hold the melee button and it will slam on the yellow marker

Is the hammer the best weapon in your oppinion?

Slowest, most heavy hitting melee. It's only for the Assault Class though... I hope in future developments we can have much more class weapon flexibility, to a degree.
