Skaven are one of the greatest fantasy races ever created. Queek is an outlier in this and was/is an amazing character. Ghosts, vampires, aliens and monsters.........the idea of methed up rat-men burrowing up from beneath your house is far scarier then any of these.

Two theories regarding how Queek hears the voices of his heads. 1) Queek is clearly mad and believes that he can hesr them speak. Being a skaven, he is surrounded by Warpstone, the raw stuff of chaos. With the power of Chaos, believing something can make it so. In other words, due to warpstone exposure, Queek's belief that he can hear the voices of the heads, makes it true. This would also explain why they appear to adore Queek (because he believes they would adore their better). 2) Again this theory has to do with the Warpstone in Skaven society. Warpstone has been known to greatly affected the dead (it was a hail of warpstone showers that made Sylvania into a hub for the Walking Dead). With the ammount of warpstone in and around Queek (his armour is layered in Warpstone dust), it is possible that the magic containted within the stones binds the spirits of his victims to their skulls (or hands).

I like the theory that Queek has many traits of a follower of Khorne, and that he may actually be under his direct influence. He collects skulls, hates scheming and treachery, has a sense of honor, and prefers fighting his enemies head-on. Seems very similar. EDIT: also wanted you to see this: i.imgur.com/XpBaACc.png. Queek is my favorite lord in TWWH2 and I just couldn't resist 3D-Printing the guy.

I just finished reading Queek's novel Headtaker (a damn fine read if you can get your hands on it) yesterday, and I think he's become my favorite character in Warhammer Fantasy overall (not necessarily in the book itself, he has a competitor there in Sleek Sharpwit). It was honestly fascinating to really see the extent of his madness. The author did a fantastic job at making him both hilarious and unsettling (the Warhammer formula). It honestly makes me want to see Queek get dropped into other random fantasy worlds, just to see how the people there would (try to) deal with this psychotic rat bastard.

If every skaven clan plus the Horned Rat were to be unleashed on to Middle Earth, they'd need armies and warriors on the scale of the stuff that was going on back in the First Age. Westeros on the other hand would be completely screwed, imo.
