Blindo walks carefully along a well-trodden forest path. As he walks along the path he smells the midnight (Or mid-day, he can't tell. He's blind as a bat, if you forgot) air and wonders if the smell of pine could possibly be the smell of an ambush. He is very much on guard, eager to be a good scout. After all, it must be his enthusiasm that got him this job as a scout. It certainly couldn't have been his ability. He wondered, "do they know I'm blind?"... He hoped someone knew. He certainly can't have been the one to read the map of which way to get to Middenheim. He wondered about this for many minutes before walking directly into a tree and screaming "AMBUSH!" and swinging his weapon with all his might. He fells the tree with a single swipe! His men duck behind him to avoid being hit as he spins around in a circle, screaming and swinging with the intent to kill! His men say to him "No sir, that was just a tree! There is no ambush!". He stops and says "very well" in a gentlemanly English voice (one of Tom's voices), then straightens his trousers and helm in a slightly embarrassed manner before blindly walking forward to continue his march. He takes only a few steps forward before he immediately trips over the fallen tree, loudly screaming "AMBUSH!" once again, as his men face palm. This is the continuing travels, and odyssey, of Blindo the Scout.

Thanks! I posted it in the subreddit comments for the link to this video earlier with some slight improvements and people seemed to like it, including Ben. Now Tom liked it so that's pretty good too. Maybe I'll do more, if the inspiration strikes me.

While I like to see the gameplay, I feel like the best part is often the stories made up along the way. A confused Blindo is carried into battle by his seeing eye horse. Can't beat it.

ok tom you need to understand a little about ambushes in warhammer total war. unlike in most other total war ambushes, the enemy can't see you and can't react to you in any way, even if they can technically see you normally, until you begin your attack. this means if you still want to wait for reinforcements you can set up in ambush formation on the far side of the map where the enemy will eventually walk into, giving you time to also move your reinforcements into the ambush position (you should also use skirmish more for your gunmans)

armor is actually effective against bullets, but due to speed problems caused by wearing plate it was forgone in preferance to the mass production of guns. When concerning guns of the middle ages.

This is just a guess, but I think pistoliers are supposed to be used to harass the enemy and for flanking. In other words, they're basically support that help break enemy units after the rest of the army has already engaged.

Ben, when you judge magic are you counting men or health? You seem to switch between the two and they are not representative of each other, in other words you could kill no one but the unit can be at no health. Also you have a perfect charge lined up to follow your perfect cast on the Outriders and you ran the other way with your knights, why man why? When you hit with that spell the guys lose their charge bonus, are ready to take extra morale damage and, importantly for this example, cannot brace for charge in return.

The talking about armour puts them squarely in the yogscast family, like there was any doubt. "Armour was too heavy" nope, it affords better maneuverability than modern war gear, and even a lot of firefighting gear, because the weight was all scaled to the body. The belief that armour is clumsy comes from idiots in the 19th century putting on historical pieces that weren't made for them, it's like thinking all tuxedos look like shit because you got a one size fits all for your school's formal. "Pistols were historically good against armour" nope, black powder weapons were historically shit against armour, with only a few of their type from centuries after armour fell out of favour being capable of piercing armour at point blank range. Not until modern rifle bullets did we get weapons that could reliably pierce or cause blunt force trauma through armour, and I mean within the past 80 years. "That's why we stopped using armour, because of guns" eh, true but not because the offensive technology was beating the defensive tech, it was because it's way cheaper to get a bunch of guys in a bunch of colourful uniforms to shoot in unison to thin out enemy ranks, than it is to hire knights, plus you don't have to deal with their political machinations. Hell guns were shit compared to longbows and some crossbows, it was just way easier to train peasants on guns than on something like a longbow that would actually change the body's physiology over time to make the archer more effective. I know this rant is way late, but wtf else am I supposed to do with classics and humanities degrees while in grad school? Actually teach actual fucking students, fuck that, raging on KZbin is easier.
