Has to be one of the best sounding videos I've heard in a long time. And no music to interfere with the incredible sound of the engines. That last landing P-51 at dusk with fire coming out of the exhaust was fantastic. Sounded like a string of Black Cat fireworks going off. Simply incredible. Thank you so much for not ruining this video with music. Respectfully. Max

Thanks Wilbur, I really appreciate it!! It was definitely a blast to shoot (pun intended). It's not a private airport, the museum on the field has a good relationship with the airport and its tenants and we were told we had full access as long as we were smart and safe.

FANTASTIC photography !!! This is the way it should be done.. I couldn't believe how close you were able to get to the planes. This must be a private field? THANKS for the excellant video.

What beautifully painted fighters you have. I liked the taking of pictures of the different stages of flight; taxing, run up, turn onto the run way, power on, just before lift off, air born , wheels up, fly by, and landing. "Great photography !"

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the kudos on the video!! Yes this is all hand held, the camera is the Panasonic AG-AC160 with the Rode 2 external mic. The camera has great image quality but the stabilization basically sucks compared to the XL2 I used to shoot with, I end up having to run each scene through the proDAD Mercalli V2 program, it takes twice as long to edit but the end product is well worth the time.

Thank you for filming it non digitally. I hate the effect on the prop wash when recorded digitally. They need to work on that with a camera we all can afford . Great work . I watch it over and over again , like much of your other work. Thanks and God Bless

That p-47, what a beauty! P-40s are always a favorite too. Those guys need to get some 300m.p.h. + fly byes in. You know, blowing out that built up carbon deposits. P.S. Very glad that you dumped that music before it got really bad.

In the hands of the right pilot the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was a lethal airplane. Superior to the P-51 in manueverabilty and in ruggedness, her only handicap was high altitude speed and this was due to the US Army's decision to limit turbosuperchargers in Allison V1710's in P-40's and P-39's. Only the P-38 enjoyed the turbosupercharged Allison engine, giving the P-38 Lightning high speed performance (414 nmph) at critical altitude. The P-40 had a higher drag design than that of her peers, but a cleaned-up version of her, the P-40Q, with an uprated Allison V1710 @ 1,475 bhp gave her a very respectable top speed of 422 nmph, but this P-40 variant came too late in the war to be considered for production. The P-40 was rugged, and with the Allison engine, she was able to serve in every theater of war in WW2, from scorching dessert heat, to the humid jungles of the South Pacific, and in brutally cold environments all over the world. In many ways the P-40 Warhawk was one of, if not the greatest warbird ever built, because there was virtually no job or climate she could not perform or operate in. Because of this, she helped win World War 2 by helping to destroy the enemy on every front, while bringing her pilots safely home to fight another day, despite sustaining sometimes incredible damage to both her airframe and engine. Thank you to all who flew her.

No,sorry. The p51 was better all around. What was great about the p40 was the rugged design and the lucky fact that there was enough wing area for a decent fuel or bomb payload. P39 was a good design but with all the armor and other war payload the performance was lacking at altitudes over 1000 feet. Tough in ground attack. The Russians used them well. Everything from the p38 on was the next generation of aircraft. Unfortunately Curtiss was out of the aircraft business soon after ww2. P40q was great but other designs were already being used in large numbers.

And if you are recording digitally , how?
@Voodoo1650
@Voodoo1650 8 жыл бұрын
+Spawn 1960 Yes I'm filming it digitally, the problem with a lot of HD cameras these days is that they film in a frame rate of 24 or 30 which looks very realistic but you get a choppy prop look which I don't like, I have my camera set up to 1080/60p, the 60 FPS gives the airplanes a nice prop blur.

man...just cant get enough of these WWII birds...so frikn cool...these are when planes had personality...you had to FLY them..they were an extension of oneself...kinda like the way guys think of their cars..hot rods..etc....todays aircraft are so hi-tech and devoid of any personality...its the way it is unfortunately
