Wolfenboss is actually a kitsune. He is wearing traditional Japanese clothing. His area contains kitsune statues that are often seen at shrines dedicated to Inari. He shoots foxfire projectiles. And last but not least, the treasure you get after defeating him is a fan, similar to Japanese fans.

@@crazyghost5357 I think the doll boy is based on a Japanese children’s game where the daruma is on top of these blocks and you knock the blocks down with a mallet without knocking the daruma down. The game is called Daruma Otoshi.

Apparently the real name was revealed in the Dr. Mario 64 game. 🤔
