In a real war, all your training is thrown right out the window. In low-intensity conflicts like Afghanistan, it's alot easier to do all the cool things you were taught. You guys had many advantages over the Taliban, right? But in near-peer conflicts where the enemy has the same equipment and advantages as you, it becomes alot harder to use all those cool techniques. The way I see it, what matters is not how they get it done, but only whether they can get it done or not.

But at the end of the day, you have to remember they ARE in a firefight. They might just be prioritizing the survival of themselves (and their teammates) over remembering some of their training. Pretty sure you already know this, but it's hard to think straight and remember things while being shot at.
