From the moment I understood the modern RPG, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of 90s game design. I aspired to the purity of the Black Isle. Your kind cling to your guiderailed action adventures, as though they will not decay and fail you. One day the crude collection of shooter mechanics sprinkled with dialog trees you call RPGs will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the eastern European classic Fallout modding scene is immortal…

I think the easiest answer to "is fallout about capitalism" in my opinion is simply "maybe". Fallout's about a lot of things, most notably conflict. Capitalism just so happens to conveniently be involved in a lot of conflict, as much as any other ideology at least.
@ethanduncan16464 ай бұрын
Yeah conflict is what I would describe Fallout to be about. Capitalism as an ideology is just one way to explore that. Like I don't think the Master in Fallout 1 is supposed to be a stand in or an exploration of capitalism. Bethesda is just lazy and wants to cash in on trends like always. If they actually explored it in a way that isn't "We nuked the world to eliminate competition" I don't think I would have an issue with it.

In that same critique Chris Avellone said this about mutant sterlilisation: " I’ve made a lot of bad lore decisions myself, notably Marcus the super-mutant from Fallout 2 countering the claim that super-mutants were sterile (they are, but this is an example of a joke that does serious damage to the lore and undermines Fallout 1’s premise). "

Well, fertile doesn't mean the offspring is actually viable anyway. Or worse, it might cause a case of Arcanum's half-ogres ... Then the comment about not getting pregnant takes a whole other meaning.

@@Palora01 So true. If I recall correctly, the "Vault Tec was a social experiment" thing was meant to be a punchline. Like, Vault 13 was supposed to have hundreds of water chips, but they didn't recieve them. First because of a shipping error, and later on because someone wanted to test the hypothesis that if people didn't have access to drinking water, they died. And now you have fallout lore beards deconstructing and analysing that one-off gag at the expense of the player (getting to vault 8 and finding hundreds of useless water chips instead of a spare GECK) as if it's serious literature.

Such a convenient day for this to drop. I expect you to always synchronize your releases with my birthday from now on, Warlockracy. (Thank you!)

Thanks for showing off the second build of fallout 2. Jokes aside I feel like you’ve really hit your stride. You videos are incredible and I get so excited when I see a new one pop up in my sub tab.

That title and thumbnail combination unlocked something deep in my mind. I can't remember what, though, since it also gave me an aneurysm right after.

I disagree with the most upvoted comment - this is THE most fitting title to the video about Fallout 2, when we take into consideration just how choke-full of stale and dated memes/jokes/references the game in question is. Couldn't do it better myself even if I tried (and I didn't at all). Also - can I steal Karl Marcus? He's just so damn beautiful... UwU
