Interesting hearing a raw version of the album recording. Shame it's so hard to find background info on new releases or even credits and liner notes of any kind in this case. I wonder if any of this video is of the actual take or if they just used the audio from the album session to make it seem like the performance "live" on video was as good as the album. I'd be curious to hear the rest of the session either way. EDIT: I've just learned that this video and album were produced entirely by the group themselves and friends in an old building I've been to in Dalton, MA very near to where I'm from. I had assumed this was heavily produced by some big company but no! What an incredibly talented group of people. I came across their first album a month or two ago and I love it. It'll probably remain my favorite of theirs too, because it's all theirs. Minimal interference from others in any of the creative process, as it should be. There isn't a bad song on it. Beautifully recorded and performed.

To be fair, I could make her sound great through a SM58, and for sure a Beta 87, I bet I could give this mic a run for its money because it ain't really the mic at the end of the day, it's the performance and she is awesome, so you could just about use any standard mic and make her sound great. It's just a fact. The nice mic just gets you to the end a little easier and a touch more natural because you aren't Introducing phase incoherence by eq-ing it a lot to get it there. Ideally you barely have to touch an eq and if you do, it's broad q's and gentle slopes like a top shelf or something. But really that is like the last 2% of quality. You can get the other 98% with anything decent and putting in the work.
